My school would've banned the shit out of it. They where even checking if our calculators weren't programmable during maths and physics tests.

I wish I would've had an internet connection or a gaming console like all the kids in my class.
As a result I'm a fun-hating internet addict now, trying to catch up with my generation.
It's not easy at all.

I probably would have gotten one of these, had they been released when I was in school. I really wanted a laptop but they were so expensive.

A cheap small laptop would have been everything to me in my teens.

schools now ban smartwatches as they have apps that can display notes - my brother is a substitute at several districts and this is uniform

schools also got TI to put calculators in a "testing mode" where programs and certain functionalities are locked out. an LED flashes while it's in testing mode and you need a PIN to unlock or remove the batteries (very noticeable during the test, and the light won't be flashing anymore once the batteries are out & put back in). this is in the new nSPIRE series of calculators

that's weird. when i was growing up the nspire series was *just* coming out and the rule basically was that you couldn't use them - you had to use the old and reliable 83's and whatnot.

I realized that everything taught in school is the opposite of what goes on in reality.

Adults can get bank roll for fart jokes, being mean and all sort of immature shit.

Socializing is a crucial skill to have and teachers always shut that shit down in class.

Cheating gets you places.

Judging people by looks and material is always happening.

People use calculators or computers to do complex math in the real world.

The internet has a wealth of information that is just the same as what MIT has to offer except practical lessons.

Future presidential elections are already decided from fraternal organizations.

Sociopaths that have charisma become top players.

When I was in my tween years (circa 2004-2006), I do wanted to have them digital diary, calculator watch and an mp3 player (a friend of my had them mp3 stick with mere 128mb of memory but it could hold about 40 songs and shit was like space magic back then)

I did get canon digital diary and some knockoff calculator watch (both of which I've won from funfair games). Loved them to pieces. In fact, I use them till they literally died of old age (around 2009 or something).

>>54817366
What's so great about these? I had one back in the day (picked it up from a garage sale with the cable to hook it up to a computer for a couple bucks, pretty sure it was pic related) and did use it, but I wouldn't even consider it over more robust PDA type devices that ran a full OS and could possibly be connected to the internet if I had the choice. Sadly mine died and I threw it out years ago, as it would just give a battery low message and not run even with entirely fresh batteries (including the backup battery).
>>
>>54817591
The whole socialising thing is encouraged in school. I guess the state schools try to make a safe environment due to their lefty disposition. That doesn't happen in the good private schools though - people are left to their devices. Especially in boarding schools, fuck me was it lord of the flies.

I had a watch that recorded audio. I would record all my friends voices and it was so cool. And because there was so little space, I had to erase every recording to record more.

So when my crush asked me to record her... I didn't do it. Because I would never have erase her voice.

I still cry.
>>
>>54820026

>>
>>54815354
Why did they let you have calculators on tests LMAO
>>
>>54819413
We were only forced to write in cursive in 3rd grade and not even the whole year.

I still hate cursive. It's definitely a meme. Heck, writing in general sucks. I didn't get to 140+wpm to not use it.
>>
I will actually second the Pebble, OP. The Pebble Time Steel kickstarter was going on during my senior year but I didn't physically get the watch until after graduation. It's so nice being able to tell the time easily. I realize that's just a watch thing, but I didn't have enough reason to wear a watch before. Notifications are also nice. Wrist vibrations feel surprisingly natural.
>>
>>54816989
my high school encouraged us to bring our own calculators and had a very limited supply of their own

I can agree to a desktop OS on a phone, in the form of GNU/Linux or maybe a BSD variant.

I would have loved a laptop. I was born in 94, so when I was a kid, for the longest time, literally every laptop was so expensive. There were old ones I got a hold of, but they were so slow and incompetent. Also, wifi wasn't really a thing back then. Nowadays, you can snag all kinds of shitty yet competent computers for $300 and actually have reliable network access with them.

I'm also pretty jealous of the sheer amount of easily accessible information on the web now. Sure, you could find something in text format if you knew what you were looking for, but little me had no idea what he was doing. Nowadays, there are all of these fairly kid friendly sources, both websites and videos, that teach you so much and really get you where you need to be to really tinker on your own. I imagine really smart kids didn't have these issues.
>>
I would've had a 4.0 GPA like these new 2000 cucks if I had an iphone like they all do.

Fucking niggers surprised when the overall GPA of the state has risen when it's no brainer that it's due to everyone cheating their ass off with iPhones since it's so fucking easy nowadays.
