Not everyone wants, needs, or has room for a full tower?

Seemed like a perfect choice for my server/media center solution.

They're cute, more challenging to build, and the novelty of being able to fit whatever you want into that small a space still hasn't worn off

this desu senpai. The idea of cramming stuff in a tiny tower has always been a lucrative idea (see: lanboxes) but previously mITX boards haven't been up to par. Since Z77 it's become easier and nowadays you can even get an X99 board that'll take ITX.
>>
The ability to put them anywhere is useful. I'd like to build one myself just because my ATX mid tower is fuckhuge and I don't even use all the space it provides. I just wish they were cheaper

Really it's the board that's the most expensive part. It's hard to find cheap ITX socketed boards.

>>
>>54803040
Thermal loads are dropping fast so there's no need for full ATX Builds unless you're going for a multi Core + multi GPU builds or servers.

It's one of those things if you don't need it to scale you don't need it to start big.
>>
What's a good small case with excellent cooling abilities for mITX and has space for at least 4 drives as well as a full sized PSU?

1. Power and cooling requirements have reduced significantly as a side-effect of recent forays into mobile tech, you no longer need a tower for all but the highest-end configurations.
2. Compact systems already offer most of the features you're ever going to use, so the days of needing many PCI slots and tons of storage slots have been made somewhat obsolete.
3. Obvious stuff like size and weight, you can move it to another room if need be with little effort, or even take it on a trip.
4. It's not a fucking tower.
>>
There's one that looks like a microwave, and it's made by the only case brand I buy from anyway. So I plan on buying one, building a work PC, and turning my HTPC build into a "cable box" for my flatscreen.

I never really liked big computers anyway. Clashes with my art-deco living situation.

mini-itx is so expensive
>>
>>54804178
It's noticeably more expensive, but not prohibitively so. There is definitely a premium on the smaller parts
>>
>>54803040
Don't know, but I did a ITX build for my mom because she just wanted something small that would fit on top of her desk.
>>
Consider this:

You need a computer that's decent enough to do most tasks on Windows or Linux that are not extremely graphical.

You don't want a laptop for this purpose, but something perhaps a bit more powerful at home.

You want something small and discrete.

They are pretty much perfect for this. My dad is excited about upgrading his piece of shit to a system with a mini-ITX board and all. He spends most of the day at home and he doesn't do anything intensive, but he's been always bothered about the size of the good old towers, even the microATX ones.
>>
>>54804883
You can still get a lot of power with an ITX build.
>>
>>54804999
Problem is availability and sometimes price. There's fewer motherboards out there, fewer cases as well. And if you plan to have a good GPU those are usually big.

But I would completely fucking get a tiny "rig" if I could.
>>
>>54804999
You can get more performance out of an ITX board than ATX.
>>
>>54803819

>>
>>54803445
where does this power/heat output increased with age meme come from? old shit ran way cooler than the 50-100W TDP abominations on the desktop today, the reason ITX builds are popular now is because minimalism is hip and most people who buy desktops don't use more than a single PCI-e slot anyway.

The sky actually does not have a color. What you interpret as blue is merely particles of light that were not reflected by the ionosphere. The sky itself is merely a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen that are colorless in their gaseous states.
