Why do people bother buying noctua nh15 when the Dark Rock pro 3 is smaller, quiter and looks better?
>>
Performance? Linus?

Idk either way I use a Cryorig R1
>>
>>54801895
It costs nearly the same
>>
>>54801946
So why not get the dark rock pro 3?

Why do people bother buying cpu coolers when no cooler is smaller, quieter and looks better?
>>
>>54802019
idk,i buy only case coolers[fans]
stock coolers are pretty good when you therma-paste them

NH-D15 is better.

Can't keep my 4790k undervolted at under 90c when benchmarking or stresstesting.

I now have a custom loop and overclocked to 4.8ghz i never go over 80c.
>>
The notcua cooler moves a little more air (82 cfm vs 70cfm), and the noise levels are basically the same. I'd say it comes down to brand loyalty more than anything.

>>54802019
Size doesn't matter unless you're doing a small build, and looks are subjective. Noise matters a lot and aftermarket coolers are a huge improvement there.
>>
>>54802223
80c seriously did you fuck it up?
>>
>>54802240
my 4790k idles at 40 degrees under a corsair h110i

its only at 4.5 ghz

I hate this processor
>>
>>54802240
80c is nothing. You can go up to 90-95 before thermal throttling.
Intel burn test puts more stress on it than anything ill ever do.
>>
>>54802240
under load 70-80 degrees

the 4690k in my htpc is at 4.7 ghz on a h80i at 25 degrees

im gonna sell it for another 4690k
>>
>>54802480
>>54802240
Also forgot to mention my 4790k is delidded.
>>
>>54802490
>>54802480
I was under the impression that anything above 75 celcius was bad for the cpu. I have my i5 2500k at 4.5 ghz never above 75 celcius cooler is the H60.
>>
>>54802523
mine isnt, cant hold an oc over 4.6

is this common? is my cooler broken?
>>
+1 for the 4790k being a housefire starter
>>
I have a Dark Rock TF. Cools almost as well as the best of them yet fits in my NCase M1 while being quieter than most.

It is expensive as fuck though.
>>
>>54802543
Haswell is super hot.
Delidding helps a lot though. Dropped my temps 10 degrees on average.

Haswell-e runs pretty cool because it's soldered and has a larger die.
>>
>>54801895
I'm gonna buy that Macho Zero right now
>>
>>54802591
>Haswell-e runs pretty cool because it's soldered and has a larger die.

Only because it is soldered. Anything else Intel says is marketing bullshit.

delidding and using liquid metal thermal interface between the die and the lid improved the temps by a good 10C for me as well, on an Ivy Bridge 3570k.

I wonder if it would be safe to use an all in one watercooler and attach it directly to the die.

Unfortunately my cpu can't oc beyond 4.2ghz without huge voltage bumps, so it's probably not worth the money. But, I might get a water block anyway so there is less pressure on the board.
>>
>>54802664
Nevermind, I thought the picture was temperature, not noise
>>
>>54802686
>Only because it is soldered
In other words: buyers of non-E chips newer than SB got Intel'd (its not the first time that Intel have changed from soldered IHS to TIM'd, they did it with last P3 chips as well and third generation bulldo..sorry, netrburst chips too).
>>
>>54802538

Anything above Tcase for a significant amount of time is bad for the CPU.

Its different for every CPU, look at intel's specsheets.

EK sells a naked ivy mounting kit.
Theres also a few guides on how to space the mounting to properly pressure the cpu into the socket.
I've thought about it to, but don't want to risk it.
>>
>>54802894
>>54802816
At the cost of higher noise levels, your hearing is more important than a cpu you can just buy again
>>
I'm not though. Thermaltake from extreme here. Swapped out the fans to something that aren't dog shit. It outperforms the nh-d15 by a few degrees. It's only downside is lack of availability. So it's more expensive. Mine was $110. So I can see why others don't think it's worth the money. Held my fx-9370 at 5.1ghz though and kept it under 59C for benching. It more than paid for itself.

When is intel/AMD gonna start the GHz race again?
>>
>>54802223

I'm doing 4.6 on a dh14.

My Temps never exceed 60.
>>
>>54803007
When AMD catches up to Intel performance and is even close to worth a damn. Right now, Intel taking AMD seriously as a competitor would be like someone trying to race a paraplegic and taking it super serious.

This coming from a fan of AMD. I'm on a 4690k right now only out of necessity after my motherboard died. (From holding the 9370 @ 5.1ghz for so long). If Zen is worth it, I'll be one of the first people in line to get their top chip.

>Zen comes out, we as consumers get to see which company can release a 6ghz capable chip out of box with standard air cooling first.
>>
>>54803076
>This coming from a fan of AMD. I'm on a 4690k right now
Fucking pussy and lying POS at that. If you were real AMD fan, you would have bought new AM3+ board instead, but no, you decided be The customer first.

>>
>>54803300
Hmm. $190 for a motherboard that can handle a 9370 or $220 for a 4690k and middle of the road z97 board. A chip that also performs better stock than the over clocked AMD chip.

Fuck off with your brand loyalty.
>>
I have Anus P8P67 Deluxe and [email protected], which have all the IPC and performance i will ever need, but i kind of understand this >>54803300 angry guy, because i've been tempted to go and buy bdver2 setup (even when knowing that it has 40% less IPC) for three years now, because this Intel setup makes me feel dirty and raped.
This is the first Intel system i ever put together, everything before that is AMD.

If Zen manages to have the IPC of Sandy Bridge, its a must buy for me, but two things bother me: Zen will have PSP and what if the chips will have non-soldered IHS, which is a deal breaker for me, because i'm not buying TIM'd shit. Also, there is only handful of decent 990FX motherboards with good enough VRM setup, i wonder if the board selection will be just as bad for the Zen?
>>
>>54803458
That just proves you're not really a fan or brand loyal, which for example i'am, because i could never buy Intel CPU. I rather fucking run K6 for the rest of my life than buy Intel.

I like big coolers and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a cooler walks in with an itty bitty plate
And a square thing in your face
You get sprung, want to pull up tough
'Cause you notice that fin stack was stuffed
Deep in the fans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
>>
>>54803076
What motherboard you managed to kill?

>long
You consider maximum four years long?
>>
>>54803941
Asus sabertooth 990fx. One of the VRMs popped. I was only running 1.53v. and having the 9370 locked to 5.1ghz since it's purchase (about 3 years. Didn't buy it until it was down to $210) isn't too bad. I don't know why the motherboard just gave up. It wasn't some cheap shit gigabyte or asrock board.

So when it does, my only option was another sabertooth for $190 or an Asus cross hair formula z for $240. At the time at microcenter, a 4690k was $160 and motherboard was $90. Get $40 off for a bundle deal. Was a no brainier. I still have my fx-9370 sitting in a special case.
>>
>>54803557
So you're a retarded fanboy. Got it
>>
>>54803575
Thermaltake makes something like that. Called the Frio silent 14 for the 140mm version. Or silent 12 for the 120mm. Like a $40 cooler.
>>
>>54804134
R2.0 or not? The VRM temps are quite worrying on my two Sabertooth R2.0's with FX-8350's.

>It wasn't some cheap shit gigabyte or asrock board.
Funny you would write that when Asrock Extreme9 is the best 990FX board out there, which actually manages to have decent VRM temps with the 12 phase digital (and no doublers) VRM design.
And again, Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 rev4 and FXA-UD7 have much lower VRM temps than Sabertooth with same chips, even when their VRM design is on paper worse (analog, use doublers) than that of Asus's one on Sabertooths.
>>
I'm using a Thermalright Macho cooler. I got it for like 40€ five years ago.

It's fucking massive and keeps my i5 3570K @ 4,5 GHz under 70°C .
>>
>>54804140
Being a brand loyal or a fan of some multinational silicon company is exactly that, absolutely idiotic, so what exactly are you then? Its all a matter of principles, which you have none as alleged fan, if you buy competing brand. Supporting something only when its good, is the defintion of spineless.
>>
>>54801962
brand recognition

just like how Hyper 212 occupies the $30 market even though they are not the best, they sell most because they're meme

I had a UD7 board shit the bed during a bios flash. I didn't support the 9370 out of the box so I popped in a Sempron single core I had laying around and flashed the BIOS that gigabyte support sent me. Bricked the board. Wouldn't even boot to BIOS. UD5 didn't support the 9370 officially, and at the time UD7 was either stupid expensive ($350+ through 3rd party sellers) or out of stock.

I had an EXT9 as well. The USB ports on the back stopped responding at random intervals after 3 months of ownership. The 12+2 VRM phase was awesome.

I even had 2 80mm fans cooling the VRM section and North bridge to help out. Even after ensuring load lone calibration was properly set to avoid voltage boost, the pc just stopped booting one day. Opened up the case to a burning smell and black scorch mark under the VRM heatsink.

Considering I own a 212 Evo myself with a 4790k @ Stock, I haven't had real problems with it. Added second fan to it.
