So I picked up a free desktop from my uncle and I dont know much about computers, so I paid him to swap the broken cpu and it works, but how good is this setup for gaming? should i keep it or try to sell it?

Suggest you get SSDs, more RAM and a Xeon CPU instead, then you're pretty much good with it.
