Will American technology ever catch up with Europe?

What the fuck is up with those new chips that banks like BOFA have?

You have to stick the card into the cashier card reader. Its very clearly just an RFID chip, why can't I just tap it somewhere?
>>
>Europe
You mean Skandinavian shitholes that brainwashed their population to completely give up any privacy.
In Sweden, you can even look up how much ANYONE makes, even your neighbors. They are completely mad. Good to know, that they will eventually die out and be replaced by muslims.
>>
>>54781753
Americans have electronic payment too, only without any of the security.

>leave card in the open for someone to run in portable scanner while you look away
>oops you got scammed

>someone takes a picture of your card while pretending to swipe it
>oops you got scammed
>>

because I had paypass for years now

Chips and wireless are implemented well outside Scandinavia.

Near complete fiber and 4G coverage too, and whatever other things you're pretending you don't want.

Americans invent things, and Europeans get to implement them. Then America catches up some 20 years later (30 years in the case of the chip on the card).

I am talking about botnet payment methods here.

Again, totally different topic.
And I am not even American.
>>
>>54781771
THIS! This is SOO American its stupid, people are scared to say how much they make! It's a GOOD thing if you know how much your neighbor makes, you can't get scammed doing the same job.

Sweden is the most cucked nation on the planet, this is a well known fact.

Fortunately, Scandinavia and Europe are two very different things.

Mate, which do you think is more likely: Some nignog having a POS terminal on him bumping into people, versus the same nignog straight up rolling your wallet?

Furthermore, in the very unlikely event that you get robbed with a POS terminal, your bank is obligated to refund you the damages.

Wouldn't do anything - NFC and Chip payments are hashed - and just bumping into someone won't give you the hashing key. Its the payment processor / bank that issues the NONCE used in the transaction.

You pay those higher prices whether you pay with cash or a credit card you fucking retard. The "higher prices" already factored in to the price of the items you're purchasing. It's not like 5 bucks gets tacked onto your total during checkout if you pay with a credit card.

There is a limit on consecutive unauthenticated payments. Furthermore, cardholders are not liable for unauthorised contactless payments so either your own or muhammad's bank would absorb the charges. If a merchant causes too many chargebacks, they'll likely lose their contract with the acquiring bank (or the bank will get in trouble with the network).
There are easier ways to steal money.

>How the fuck do you put an air conditioner in those windows??

I've actually done that, lol.

It's far from perfect perfect, but this is what I do:
- open the window
- put the air-conditioning hose through it.
- put a piece of wood above the hose and between the window and the wall, to fill the remaining gap as good as possible.
- secure the wood with a metal bar between the window and the wall, this also stops the window from opening further.
- there is still a gap above the window - it sucks but I just leave that as is.
- close the curtains to cover the less than stellar job.

It's a pain.
But it's only for a couple of weeks a year.
>>

Both Chip and Pin and contactless use asymmetrical encryption.
They never give anyone the key, they only prove they have it.

So you can't simply copy the key from a chip, like you can with a magnetic strip.
That was the hole point of switching to chips in the first place.

Yes.

Whenever I buy something online I just select my bank, get send to my bank's site to complete the transfer (suing two-way), and then get send back to shop's site.

The nice thing is: the bank also informs the shop immediately that the money has been transferred.
So no waiting for payment confirmations - my purchases can be send out right away.

Literally just went to buy pants today, spent 20 minutes in line because the chip reader was malfunctioning, the store ended up having to call in and manually authorize it, and I ended up with four charges on my card and had to call the bank to remove them. Never had any problem like that with magnetic stripes.

I recently moved to the US, and banking here sucks. I have 2 accounts in different banks, and money transfer between them takes 2-3 business (!) days. In Europe you can do it instantly.
Why so long, and why business days? Do they shut down their servers during weekends?

Software can have bugs in it, which can sway elections. I prefer Washington's way of handling elections. Everyone gets their ballot mailed to them like three or so weeks in advance. This gives voters plenty of time to review all of the candidates on the ballot, even just people running for local elections (like, say, port commissioner), and also, because the government already has on file whether you're a citizen or not, there is no need to check IDs. You just don't get mailed a ballot if you're not a citizen or otherwise ineligible to vote.

I don't care what the government knows. They've known too much about people way before current technological advances.

What I don't want is for regular people to know things about me. THAT is where privacy is a concern. I'm more worried about potential employers snooping around than the government.

I never understood this, America pioneered the idea of large infrastructure improvements in order to improve the economy. You got highways, dams, all kinds of shit with this. >>
>>54799141
There are isolated areas, where certain technologies are implemented on a fairly large scale in the US ie: Google fiber.

Just depends on where you go. There are a large number of rural and suburban areas in the US where implementing those same technologies just isn't cost effective. For instance, I have Charter Internet, which is 70/20, yet my friend, who lives 15 minutes away, has to make do with some tiny unknown isp that tops out at like 5/2, because a lake runs through the area, and the residents are relatively few and far between.

He asked about an estimate to run lines out there, and the cost was somewhere in he range of $30k for just his place, and he only has 4 neighbors within about 2 miles or so, and then it's just very sparsely populated woodland until you reach the next town.

They all own rather large plots of land, but the tradeoff is that their infrastructure is behind, because the cost/ benefit ratio is so bad for companies worried about their bottom line. It would take years to clear, build, and populate those areas, and there is very little demand. Plus the people that own the land generally inherited it, so they don't have money (or reason) to develop the area. So unless some large company decides to buy land and develop there, it'll remain rural.
>>
>>54799270

this. i get 6 down 4 up for $50/month in the rural USA.

sure i could pay twice that for 100 down but i know better, the local telephone company can barely keep the internet running during november and december with all the kids hogging up all the bandwidth, how the fuck can i rely on them to push 100 megabits?

as long as i can play 1080p shit on jewtube i'm good.
>>
>>54799168

Meanwhile, in Yurop, yet another country is blocking torrent sites:

>mfw I live rural and lakeside, with 8 miles to the nearest town, and yet the gubbament paid for the ISP to blast through granite and sink the fiber through the lakes so my neighbourhood could be reached

Isn't future-proofing a thing in the US?

If we had passed on that opportunity it would be extremely pricey though
>>
>>54782057
>tfw live in glorious Denmark
>tfw 1Gbit fiber for the equivalent of 45 freedom bucks/month
>>
>>54799389
Federal gubment $ >>> state gubment $

Also idk how I feel about taxpayer dollars going to pay for developing some hillbilly's Internet.

If the area becomes more populated, some isp will see an opportunity to make some cash, and do it on their own dime, but the government going to all that trouble for a handful of people sounds wasteful.

I understand if you want the area to become more developed, but why not fund a few buildings in the area, or roads, instead, if that's the goal? Internet is a luxury, not something that will spark development.

fed already gave ISPs billions to lay down fiber and they squandered it.
>>
This is such a silly argument, the only reason america lags in this area is because they had eftpos first and the old infrastructure is in place.

It's like roads, in america they're all grid and highway, laid out much later than europes road system, which is tight and curvy, much more organic.

Give it 100 years for infrastructure renewal time to tick over and america will have replaced eftpos with something else, while europe is stuck on pin and chip v 8 or something.

Another 100 years and they will have leapfrogged each other again
