True, thanks. While you're here though, do I need SATA power or data or both?
>>54778753
if you get one like this
http://www.amazon.com/IO-Crest-Adapter-Support-SY-ADA20079/dp/B0057UAB2K
it won't really matter
>>54778784
the picture in your OP shows a desktop sata drive so the adapter might need to use its external power cable to power it
>>54778803
So I'd have to get an adapter with an external power cable or would that one do the job?
>>54778846
according to the amazon listing it comes with one, just make sure it's this one

For a 3.5" drive you need one that includes a power brick, the ones that connect just by USB 3.0 will only work with 2.5" drives since they don't need 12V
This would work http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-Converter-Adapter-Cable-included/dp/B005B3VO24/ref=pd_sim_147_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=41NRVzaqsWL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=02H75AQEN5ZFQVC5VWXZ
This wouldn't >>54778860

it comes with a power brick
but he can choose what he wants I'm not gonna shill for something I don't own myself
I have this device and it works fantastic.
Externally powered as well, it's more of a desktop dock

It works great with USB 3, I have all my virtual machines running on an external hard drive dock, makes swapping things around super easy.
The only problem is that you wk the be able to boot regular windows from it using it as your main drive.
