I couldn't wait anymore and pre ordered the middle of the road option, I only have 1080p atm any.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC GAMING ACX 3.0

How fucked am I? Should I cancel? I don't even know when it launches.
>>
you're okay, look into the EVGA step up program. within the next 90 days you can trade in your graphics card towards a higher end model (such as the EVGA classified that is undoubtedly going to come soon) and you will just be required to pay the difference.
>>
>pre-ordering a gpu

holy shit, people are stupid.
>>
buying anything, holy fuck anon.
>>
>buying

you fucking capitalist pig
>>
>>54778347
Thanks for the tip, I might do the step up program as the other cards are more power for only $30-60 more.

But I feel if I'm stuck on 1080p for a year or two then it doesn't really matter.
>>
>>54778262
GTX1080 doesn't mean "made for 1080p" unless you're at 144Hz.
>>
>>54778262
enjoy your memecard, idiot
>>
>>54778262
You usually don't have to worry about the top end cards, but why chance it after what happened with the 970?
I would cancel it and wait.
>>
>>54778262
wait for poolaris.
>>
>>54778688
I really don't know what to think about this new generation of GPUs and CPUs.

In 5-8 years games are seriously going to start looking amazing. But at least this GTX 10XX serious is the final generation for 1080p imo. Everything after these will be for 4k and what ever comes after that.
>>
>>54778738
I think the 900 series was honestly the last generation for 1080p. You should be looking into 1440p if you plan on sticking with the 1080.
>>
>>54778688
>why chance it after what happened with the 970?

the 1080 has 8 GIGABYTES of ram

surely wont have the same problem.
>>
>>54778794
Enjoy your 7 GB of RAM before it turns into a stuttering mess.

I jest of course - I just pre-ordered the 1080 FTW GAMING, so eh, I'll see for myself.
>>
>>54778766
I will transition to 4k in the next 2 years. But I'm only running a i7 4770 OC to 4.0.

I think I'll have to invest another $1-1.5k into a next gen CPU, MOBO and a larger 4k monitor after the (hopefully) the prices drop in 2 years.

You should probably wait for the 1180 for that, the 1080 is obviously just the base line for 1080p. Probably only good for low settings.

I priced out 60% of my position this week and hope to reenter at $35-40 if it happens and the company is still sound.

You can do the same thing with AMD but at a greater % profit.

Not really tech but if you have cash it's easy to pay for your computers that way. Both companies are pure hype.

Thanks! How's this older version compare to the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility? Or would just running both of these and something like Cinebench be the best bet?

>>
>>54780692
Well I'm baffled. I should have saved my settings before I started fiddling around. I began with a 4.2 GHz OC which just came stock that I've been running at since I first put this thing together. I jacked up the core ratio to 45 instead of the 42 it was at to try a 4.5 GHz, and somehow my temperatures have gone down. It was peaking at 77C before at the 4.2, now it's peaking at 76C with 4.5 (Air cooled).

I guess it must be the voltage settings. I set it to manual of 1.325 like a number of recommendations I saw. I really should have jotted down all the settings before I messed with them. Oh well, time for stability testing.

So, I'm considering getting a new GPU when I get back from Washington D.C., should I go for the latter 1070 or get the 1080? What's the power difference between the two? My money's tight right now. so I'd like to know the power differences. I have a GTX 745 right now, and it runs well, but still has issues running games. You should put your extra money in the S&P 500. Fill up your tax advantaged space first (401k and roth ira). I have $100,000 invested in the market - so on average, I'll make $7,000 a year passively.
>>
>>54780833
I'm horrible at getting out of a stock when it's going up. It took me over 5 years to learn to just go off my targets for % made and not care.

I've been in AMD for so long that I can tell you I got burned the last time it hit around $4. Like all hyped based stocks it's going to fall again. Their financials hardly support a sustained $4 share.

The big play, aka how people are going to get rich is dumping large amounts of $ in Nvidia (it's reasonably safe) and hoping AMD goes under due to lack of competition. If that happens then you could get 300% + return from Nvidia while short selling AMD.

I pray it happens.

posting question in this thread

how do I get evga to accept an RMA on my 960? It's a piece of shit and was defective from day 1 but they want me to do all this testing to make sure it's bad enough for an RMA. Can i fry it in any way or say something to make them take it without all the other bullshit?
>>
>>54783807

>>
>>54778262
Yes, why are you buying a first run card? There's always a litany of issues.
>>
>>54783843
so what exactly is the problem with the card?
>>
>>54779178
So you're spending $400 more for a GPU in order to save $20 per year on electricity?

And in two years, when you will have saved $40 on electricity, you'll again spend $400 more for the next GPU?

What kind of ass-backwards logic is that?
>>
>>54783843
disable the fans and benchmark it until it fries. ahahha or put it in an oven, but most likely will fuck its warranty up if you do the last part
>>
>>54784082
actually baking the gpu might make it work better, do it and post results.
>>
>>54783931

It's hard to say, but I bought it a week after it came out and it always had performance issues. Every game I played would stutter, on lowest settings. Heating issues, among other things. Replaced it with a 390x recently, so I really don't want to put it back in to run a bunch of diagnostics.

So I need a way to get them to accept the RMA, without putting it back into my pc. Considered the oven, but it would melt the plastic and they'd be able to tell. Benchmark with fans off might work, but I don't want to break any other part of the pc in doing so

I'm not the same guy you're replying to but even the 40W less a typical Nvidia card can save from idle power is more than worth it in most parts of Europe by the 12th or so month if you never shut down your system.

Needless to say I never shut down mine.

>>54783896
You don't need to worry about that.
There won't be any gaming PCs by 2030.
Intel is pulling out of desktop PCs.
All Nvidia does is pointing towards an all professional terminal style future for workstations as well.

It's all dumb consoles and clouds from now on baby. Better learn to accept it because there is nothing you can do to change it, whether you buy shitty AMD cards and cpus or not.
