Why do people/websites use the terms "i5" or "i7" when talking about purchasing or recommending laptops or PC builds? The terms are meaningless without the generation and # of cores. People hear those little identifiers and get so impressed. "Woah, you have an i7? That's sick!" Are people just idiots?
>tfw dual core i7
Ha ha, living the i7 dream.
>Are people just idiots?
Yes
Here's a fun task. Go find examples of this on /g/ right now.

I was thinking about getting the MSI - GT72S Dominator Pro G-219. Specs: 1TB Hard Drive + 128GB Solid State Drive, Intel Core i7 2.7gHz, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 8GB, for $2199

i don't see a problem here
As the laptop has a 980M, it's obviously either 4th or 6th gen i7, and the only difference between the models in those lineups is clock speed and turbo boost, which he stated
it really seems pretty obvious

Living the dream.
The real tragedy is that few people know that Intel CPUs are backdoored and 100% unsuitable for processing private data. If you run an Intel CPU you must assume that the NSA and other terrorist organizations are accessing your data in this very moment.
