I use a monitor, also called a screen, mine is an lcd variant but crt works fine too. I have in the past used a projector as a second screen, it also was an lcd variant but some people use crt or dlp or laser projectors.
I would recommend an lcd monitor though, they seem the most popular for computers in the current year.
