Why are people buying Chromebooks over Macbooks?
Because they don't like wasting money on fashion accessories

Macbooks are over priced garbage and the Chromebooks do everything they need at a fraction of the price.
Most people just use "the internet" on their computer anyways.

to save $1600 on a machine they will only ever use to surf the web and shitpost.

But the Pixel is like $1500
why not?

Nobody actually buys the Pixel at full price
Both are shit,
Thinkpad with GNU/Linux > All

Price.
The funny thing is, most people on /g/ call Macbooks "Facebook machines", when in fact, Chromebooks are exactly that.
A Macbook Air can play some games, I can play WoW on it, I can Counter-Strike on it. Sure, older and less graphically intensive games. You can't do that on a Chromebook.
Chromebooks are nice if all you do is surf the internet. There's really no software made for it, unlike OS X.
They're cheap too, like $300-$500 for a decent one. Sure you can put Linux on a Chromebook, but why do that when you can buy a Thinkpad with better specs and an IPS display for $200?

I can play Runescape on a Chromebook

Because it's easier to find last years' chromebooks for $100-150.
Load Gallium, and it serves decently.
They're also lighter and have a better battery.
Really wish Acer would offer chromebook hardware with a normal keyboard.
