They're both close sourced software, and they cost you nothing. Quite literally the same outcome. You put in the work on Windows. Or you get it easy on a Mac because you spent an extra $500 on it because it's a darn Mac.

Can't sort with folders always on top
Can't cut and paste
Can't create a new file with right click
Changing default settings nearly impossible
No snap to grid in icon view?
Incredibly difficult to get around folders outside of your home directory.
Many others I can't remember off the top of my head because the terminal is easier than using finder.
Maybe if you haven't used windows explorer or any Linux file manager finder might seem ok, but otherwise it's a crappy, unintuitive mess that you can't even replace because it's too integrated.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphex_Twin#Equipment
From this list, Apple has a slight edge (due to the fact that Logic Pro is OS X exclusive) the rest of the software Aphex Twin uses is cross-platform with Windows (and unfortunately Linux is lacking because nobody wants to port to it).

Again, iMovie is WMM tier.

>Can't sort with folders always on top
Actually finder offers retardedly many ways to sort stuff. Kind, date, size, time, and a vast array of other tags (because custom tagging in bakes into Finder).

>Can't cut and paste
Drag and drop. Seriously, they even created springloading to facilitate drag and drop everywhere in the system, between any apps, the dock, etc. . Finder is no exception, it supports drag and drop throughout.
But STILL if you want traditional "cut and paste", just hold alt when pasting. It even changes the menu item from "paste here" to "move here" to give you a hint. And works with the alt+cmd+v shortcut too.

>No snap to grid in icon view?
right click--> clean up

>Incredibly difficult to get around folders outside of your home directory.
Seriously now? There's a PERMANENT menu item in the menu bar, surprisingly named Go.
If the shortcuts there (including a dynamic list of recent folders) is not what you're looking for, just click "Go to Folder" and type the path, boom.
Or use the default shortcut, shift+cmd+G, a window pops up and you type the path, boom. Also works with hidden files and folders.

Want to connect to a file server? Cmd+K, window pops up, type the address, and done, it's mounted locally and seamlessly.

>Maybe if you haven't used windows explorer or any Linux file manager finder might seem ok
It doesn't even compare. Finder has tagging, multiple tabs, and most importantly, gesture support.
You navigate back and forth with 3-finger swipes, like in a web browser. You want to change the size of icons? You pinch to zoom like in a browser.
Also, it supports so many sensible shortcuts out of the box, it's not even funny.

All that, but especially the gesture support in combination with expose (brings up all open windows of the app) makes working in anything else a torture.

The only reason I can think someone would hate finder, is if they tried to use it like Explorer or dolphin or shit, which seems to be the case with you

If you actually had to do a fucking day of real work in your life you know how fucking draining a day with a trackpad is in your life? People are already complaining about RSI using a mouse for too long, using a fucking trackpad is even worse considering how much more effort you have to expend to get the simplest shit done.
>>

I agree there are certain tasks a mouse is better for such as CAD, but these are niche uses that most people don't do. In general, the trackpad obliterates the mouse.

I've owned a Macbook albeit at a reduced price as a student and still don't get this argument.

You don't get all this Apple shit free, Apple goods are $500-1000 more expensive than equivalent laptops/PC with the EXACT SAME PARTS.

Sure you could make a Hackintosh or get a used beaten up 2012 Retina Pro but the mark up is still higher than an equivalent 2012 laptop/PC. I'd rather have the spare cash and get real equipment (mixing deck/good condenser microphone/instruments) and torrent the software. I torrented software on Mac even with the free software because it was a toy at best.

Macs may have had a function once but now it's just a designer item mark-up for the same parts crammed into every other computer.

>I've used a Trackpad now for about 7 weeks and have developed debilitating pain in my shoulder and down my deltoid and brachialis muscles, and along the tendons in my forearm, affecting me in all activities of daily living. I'm now using the Trackpad with my left hand, whilst I consider getting a mouse. (I have used an ordinary mouse for many, many years with no problems.) I think it's because with the Trackpad your whole arm remains motionless but rigid and tense. Also the pressure required to 'click' the Trackpad becomes progressively greater as you move up the pad: at the low, front edge it is a light press, but because one is constantly making gestures, the fingers generally end up being nearer the top of the pad, where the pressure required to click is much greater. As you click you can feel tendon movement occurring deep inside your shoulder joint. Perhaps it is this clicking that has caused my injury.

Show us anybody with any skill playing any competitive shooter or RTS with a trackpad.

Show us any professional editor or producer who uses a trackpad for precise work.

The only people who use trackpads are casuals and that's because they use their $1500 Macs as Facebook machines. No amount of gimmicky gestures can replace the precision and customisation of a good mouse. Even the clit on Thinkpads is more useful since you don't need to move your hands off the keys to move the cursor. That's why NASA use them on the ISS and not overpriced Apple toys.
