What NAS does /g/ use?
I'm looking for a machine that lets me mount SSDs and install my own operating system, like for example FreeNAS or a full-blown Debian. Any recommendations?

A 4-drive synology one, I forget the model.
Does 10GigE.

Build your own mini ITX case or something

I already have senpai.
But it was so cute I'm using it as my main now.
NAS is for cucks. Build your own home server.

Hell yeah, my main and past rig (that I gave to my brother) were mini ITX, beast inside, never filled a normal mid tower case anyway.

I work for an MSP and a couple of our clients have 2008 SBS installed on their NAS.
Works fine for small business

What is the difference between a home server and a NAS? It's the same fucking thing.

What is the difference between a homemade and a prebuilt? It's the same fucking thing.

I *think* they mean a NAS is too easy. A home server is something you make yourself.

These guys are being pedantic. NAS doesn't actually imply prebuilt

NAS is more power efficient, especially if it's just serving files.
I built myself a FreeNAS box with ECC and the like, as well as a separate hypervisor box. That's generally the way I recommend people to go.
