Real fast chargers have two modes, one 5V/~2A and one usually 9V/~1.5A. When the phone is using the fast charge feature it charges at 9V, otherwise at 5V.
At normal charging phones should really not be charged at more than 2A, less is better if you want to extend the life of the battery. The 9V mode likely shortens the life even more.

This is how it works: batteries on phones charge by having a higher voltage than what the battery has being applied to them and a certain amperage being applied to them as well.
Normally phone batteries charge with a voltage of ~4v and an amperage of 1,000 mA. Assuming a 3.7v, a 3,000 mAh phone battery (typical on many smart phones) was being charged with a 1,000 mA charger it would take about 3 hours to go from 0% to 100%. This is also the phone assuming the phone is turned off and battery temperature is under 100°F (~38°C).
So what ends up happening in the real world is your phone will use about 100 mA of current (0.4 watts) per hour to keep itself in standby mode with the screen off. The battery is already competing for amperage and will charge 10% slower due to the phone being in standby mode. Temperature will also affect how much amperage the battery will pull from the socket. Greater than 100°F (~38°C) temperatures threaten to reduce the battery's lifespan or if extreme enough, kill it. In an attempt to save itself your battery will reduce amperage to under 500 mA of current or less when it is too hot.
What this means is for a typical smartphone a 2.1A charger is very beneficial because as long as temperatures are not too hot the charger will provide the battery with a steady 1A charge and you will have 1.1A left over to use your phone while it is charging. You will be able to play angry birds/snapchat or whatever and your phone will still charge in about 3 hours despite you using it.
However battery charging tech has come a long way and most phones have quick charging technologies that basically let phone batteries pull more than 1,000 mA and/or 4V out of a charger if temperatures are low enough. This is why say the Zenfone 2 will go from 0 to 100% in less than 60 minutes (requires 9v 2A charger and low temps ofc).

The amount of current drawn is dependent on the difference in voltages between the source (charger) and the sink (battery). The charger cannot push more current into the battery than the battery draws. The charger may be able to supply up to 1,000mA but the battery will draw only such current as the difference in voltages requires.
The charging current usually starts out high, assuming the battery is flat, and the exponentially falls as the difference in voltages drops. This is mirrored by the battery voltage rising.

That's not the solution at all. Instead get a phone with super fast charging like the Zenfone 2 (under 60 minutes) and charge your phone when needed. It also helps that the zenfone 2 has an x86 processor which is more energy efficient than ARM. Sadly stock ROM is a little bloated and you void your warranty if you you unlock the bootloader (which you can) to install a custom ROM.

lolwut? No, the current draw depends on how much the battery pulls (temperature affects this) and how much the phone itself pulls. The charger feeds the phone and the battery which is why a phone can survive without a battery and only a charger.

True but usually it will draw up to 1,000mA from 0-80% and as long as temperatures are not too hot. I think there is even a point where a battery will outright refuse any current at all if the temperature is too high.

We're not addressing the true cause of battery drain here: the processor. The reason why phones have such shitty battery lives is because ARM is a cheap piece of shit that requires more electricity to run the same tasks. We need the latest Core-M processors in phones to take advantage of how energy efficient x86 truly is. Android can already run on x86 it doesn't give a fuck so it's not like the switch to another cpu architecture would be a problem. Sadly this may never happen since phone manufacturers care more about profit then a good product.

my phone has it, the s6, the battery isn't that great but it usually lasts me a whole day. It charges from 0-100% in like 30-45min though. It actually is quite a bit faster, but doesnt really affect the battery at all from what I can tell, they're still just as shitty, but not really shittier than most other phones
As long as my phone can charge in about 6 hours, I'm fine with it. It's not like there's a reason to charge it more than once a day.
