do Linux drivers work in OpenBSD?
>>54742354
Depends on what the devs felt like porting over and the license.
>>54742354
Don't use bsd for main rig
i mean, can you use an .so file meant for linux in openbsd? (if both are x64 architecture)
>>54742480
nope
>>54742412
Don't give poor advice
Nvidia has FreeBSD drivers. I don't know if they'll work with OpenBSD though.
>>54742536
They won't. If your only GPU is Nvidia and you use OpenBSD you're stuck with the software rasterizer. OpenBSD has zero Nvidia support.
>>54742412
BSD is fine. FreeBSD and DragnflyBSD especialy. OpenBSD is designed to be as secure and as stable as possible, while that's nice it lacks some desktop features so I don't recommend it.
>>54742575
OpenBSD's the best BSD for desktop use
OpenBSD doesn't do proprietary binary blobs, so Nvidia fanbois are shit outta luck.
year 2000 + 16
people still using bsd
>>54742609
it runs pretty well on Skylake laptops
>>54742630
>2016
>people use their OS of choice
Holy shit what a surprise!
>>54742630
> 2000 + 16
people still using knives, wheels, pipes, boats ...
you NEVER go full retard ;)
>>54742564
http://man.openbsd.org/OpenBSD-current/man4/nv.4
>>54742708
That's only the Xorg driver.
Yes, it's confusing.
>>54742609
No it is not. Freebsd is.
op here
what about the Linux compatibility layer
https://www.openbsd.com/papers/slack2k11-on_compat_linux.pdf
does it work with drivers?
>>54742708
>supports nothing newer than the GTX200
I wish I never bought the 970
I'm living the no-driver lyfe and it sucks.
Things slow down in the Appleā¢ mailroom, the lackies get put on 4chan shill duty.
>>54743183
nope, and besides, they removed the compat layer in OpenBSD
>>54744439
>imblyng Apple would want people to use OpenBSD instead of Apple (tm) Mac (tm) OS X (tm)
>>54744450
>Emblibing apple has never assraped the permissive bsd license.
Developers developers developers.
>>54744523
How do you rape a licence?
>>54743070
No it is not. OpenBSD is.
>>54744442
shit
Does any BSD system support drivers? I won't consider the switch if 50% of my hardware won't work on it.
>>54746424
BSD has good support for server hardware. Everything else is unlikely to have a driver.
>>54742708
someone needs to port nouveau stat
>>54747050
i think they don't like it because it's not official or something
it's too hack-y for them
>>54747050
I'm delegating this task to you.
Now, hurry along now, lots of work to do!
>>54746491
not true. their laptop and pc support is also good.
>>54747097
I'm reading OpenBSD manual pages right now, and I was interested to see resolver.conf explanations mention desktops and notebooks.
>>54742354
The real question is do uber drivers work in lyft?
>>54745424
No, it's FreeBSD.
>>54748703
No, it's OpenBSD.
>>54748703
PC-BSD :-DDD spurdo
