Hey /g/,
I'm buying the AKG K702's today, but unsure if it's worth the money?
Never owned Hi-Fi headphones before, so any $50+ 'phone is a HUGE upgrade for me.
Is it worth it? Otherwise that's +$249.00 for a new GPU!

Depends on how good is your hearing.

It will be like getting an SSD. You will never go back.

Buying hi-fi headphones is usually a bad idea because instead of creating an amazing listening experience, it enables you to notice flaws more often. Like if an album is poorly mixed or mastered, you'll definitely hear it when you wouldn't have noticed if you were listening on Skullcandy Smokin Buds or something like that, and a lot of albums cut corners in quality. Either the album was mixed poorly or you downloaded a bad/low-quality file. Either way, earphones that are too good make it impossible to ignore.
As soon as you get studio-quality headphones, your library is going to cut itself in half because you're going to keep deleting everything. At least that's what I've found.

the K702 is prob the cutoff of where headphones are worth their price

This is so true and it's very noticeable on small amateur bands.
