Hey /g/, Could we get a vintage computers thread going? Discussion, pics, experience with old systems, etc. Preferably from between 1959-1985.
This right here.
There's a neat project in California to maintain two of the few remaining (and functional) 1401s.

Unfortunately myself I haven't had experience with any of these old beasts.

CuriousMarc has a youtube page about this exact place. They debug an IBM 729 in one episode. Fortunately for me my uncle worked with IBM from 1964-2004, so I've got lots of access to all sorts of goodies.

Post pics if able. I guarantee more men than just I would appreciate it man.
People back then were so stupid. Why didn't they just skip straight to SSDs??

Also how could you tell someone gtfo over a thinkpad? Sure, that model isn't within date range...but seriously?

We couldn't reverse engineer them just yet. I bet the highest echelons of DARPA had NAND in the late 80s though.

I'm sure you probably know of them already, but vwestlife, uxwbill, and lazy game reviews all have good content you'd enjoy.
