Design =/= Manufacture. You can have the best engineers design your product, but it doesn't mean that those same people also have to actually make it. For instance, 95% of optics that carry the Zeiss brand are actually made by Cosina in Japan, but actual German-made optics start at several grand. Not to say that something designed or made by Califags somehow carries prestige.
