Crucial or Samsung for SSD. The Samsung 850 is probably your best bet. Some people over in /csg/ have some Chingchong brand (KingDian?) that is fast and so far has been very reliable. Make sure it's a 7mm drive.
If you're not doing intense disk I/O tasks (and don't need wireless WAN), consider an mSATA SSD. It's SATA2 but it leaves the drive bay open for a big fucking mechanical drive for storage, which apparently you will already have.
RAM - pretty much anything is fine. Hynix is what it probably came with. I think there's a BIOS mod that lets you use faster RAM, so look into that before buying anything.

Fuck guys, I reset my BIOS for to fix the hard blocked wifi issue and now I can't boot ANYTHING on my T420s. Can't boot the an USB drive, nor the SSD, neither in UEFI or legacy mode.
What the fuck do I do? I'm going to boot up Ubuntu in another PC and try to recover my data and install it over, maybe a fresh install on legacy mode will boot up correctly.

In its day, the CPU was quite impressive given the weight and slimness of the machine. Also why do people make such a big deal out of 1.8" drives? Replacing them is as easy as getting a 1.8" SATA to mSATA converter. I have one on my T410s and it works great.
