Hey guys i am looking for a program to use as an equalizer for my laptop. I have quite bassy headphones with recessed mids so i need to bring them up a bit. My audio drivers for the laptop are shit not working.

So i found this app Equalizer APO (pic related) and it works. Do i keep using it or is there anything you could recommend?

I suggest the 80 Ohm version. Your Sansa would not be able to power the 250 Ohm, and the 32 Ohm come with shitty pleather earpads (as opposed to velor pads). Also, the 80 Ohm version is the bassiest.

>>54715472
Planars have extension but the bass has no body just like most open back headphones. Those low frequencies are lost because of the open back housing, they tend to sound a bit thin in the bass region or lacking in impact. It's nice to look at how linear the graphs are but its once you try them that you see that planar bass isn't that impressive. Detailed up to a certain extent but not satisfying. It's the same complain electrostats have gotten over the years: technical accuracy but no body and are thin sounding.

- Near reference but preference to a little more bass
- Rock, EDM, classical, jazz
- Pic related is my current gear; love my ROX Wireless but the battery life is shit. Have had other IEMs including a-JAYS Fives but I lost them. Longest lasting pair was a $5 TDK which I used for 5 years before the cable gave way.

You don't need deep penetration for good noise isolation. See Shure for example.

So I bought the HD650s and O2 amp yet from my PC the music sounds watered down as if it is slightly underwater (not terrible, just not great as I anticipated), I plug the headphones into my phone and the quality is quite better,

I even have to use the audio driver's equalizer built into my motherboard to make it not sound flat.

Is my motherboard to blame? Should I just buy a DAC or soundcard. Is a soundcard just comprised of a DAC and Amp or is there more to it?

There shouldn't be anything lower than 3.0 on the mid-range/high-end market right now. Most are at least 4.4 or higher.

>>
>>54719782
I was thinking about going to bestbuy or brands mart USA to check some prices, hoping to find something good. Nowadays those wireless headsets recharge with a similar battery as cellphones? It'd bad if they needed those alkaline batteries.
>>
>>54715263
amp would be more useful, and then only if you need it. main problem with phone audio is the introduction of noise into IEMs which most people use for portable listening. external amp/dac can eliminate this.
>>
>>54719906
Nah, most should have lithium ion batteries built-in, which could be blessing (having a smaller package) and a curse (you're fucked if the battery dies).

Most recharge via mini/micro USB but there are some out there recharge wirelessly too.

There are over-ear and some bigger on-ears that allow for replaceable batteries, but I don't bother with them because you might as well have a pair of decent wired ones.

Bluetooth IEMs are the most practical since they take advantage of size reduction and wirelessness the best.

And Bluetooth headphones/IEMs are almost always headsets as well.

stuff like the x2, portapro, and evo manage to have body, even if it's at the cost of some balance. and I have heard a good few closed headphones that should have a good amount of bass body on measurements but don't have that much in use.

>>54716409
ttpods are good. piston 3 is a tad better IMO. get the ttpod if you want a more v-shaped sig (but still tame by IEM standards), with more bass body. get piston 3 if you want more balance in general and really good upper mids/highs. ttpods have decent isolation. piston 3 have very poor isolation for IEMs.

Honest question, I'm new to headphones.
>>
>>54720530
IEMs or headphones?
>>
>>54720608
triggered by sennheiser fanboys. doesn't realize you can like a sennheiser model or dislike other models from other companies without being a shill. like most headphone makes most of sennheiser's lineup is shit and not worth it. doesn't mean a few of their nicer headphones aren't amazing.

Both would be good, but with a preference for headphones.

>>
>>54720099
Yeah that's why I said most. I refrained from mentioning the X2s because I don't consider them to be that great. Portapros are a different category of 'ultraportables' where the earpads are so small it couldn't possibly isolate and therefore there is no seal or sound chamber created, probably just rely on that mid bass hump to give it body but they don't extend well. What closed headphones are you referring to?
>>
>>54720707
IEMs: Brainwavz BLU-100 or Jaybird Bluebuds X
Headphone: Sony MDR1RBT

You can get those from Amazon for cheap.
>>
>>54720738
mad dogs and hp50. they have body and impact but not as much as you would expect. maybe because there is no hump like the x2, they just sound warm, not really bassy. v6 sounds way bassier than in should once you turn down the upper mids and highs some.

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the help you provided me.

Any suggestions for good isolating and comfortable headphones with $100 budget? I primarily want something to wear for hours a day to block out noise from my shithead neighbors. Not interested in IEMs though.

Astro A50's
I loved the wireless, the big issue was that they had a feedback from the microphone that caused a slight buzz in the left ear cuff whenever it was detecting sound. This literally killed any enjoyment I got from them.
Cloud Hyper X2
These were alright, however the cord, despite being braided seemed to tangle constantly. I would have liked a moveable microphone, as in goes up or down, or on the can controls. I disliked the inline audio for controls. Microphone stopped working after 6 months.
Corsair gaming H2100
I liked the band style for the head, and I liked the scroll wheel for control of volume. I disliked the plastic feel to it and it seemed to creak during movement, disturbing sound. The sound Quality for voice was pretty bad.

I'm more or less totally fed up with shitty low budget headset setups. They consistently annoy at the best of times and from my understanding USB generally degrades sound quality quite a lot. However I'm totally uninitiated in the finer points of sound quality or setup, since I never used to care about it. I'm more then willing to do some "required reading" as needed to get up to speed on this. I am totally open to moving to a dedicated Microphone and Headphones setup as needed, however I would prefer to stick to a headset, if possible.

IEMs by their very natures are the for best noise isolation. Even passive IEMs beat out "active" noise cancellation headphones.

Sooo, I just impulse bought a pair of Senn HD598, and I have to say I'm totally unimpressed. On my phone they sound like complete shit which is understandable, but on my PC which can drive them to deafening levels, they also sound like shit. I really can't hear the amazing "soundstage", they have almost no bass whatsoever, and I would define the highs and mids veiled and kinda muddy. I would compare the sound of these to my shitty $5 VE Monk earbuds I got memed into buying by head fi, they're just louder and slightly more detailed.

Maybe they need burn in? I have 24 hours to bring them back to the store for a refund.

I'm looking for decent headphones at around 100 usd or less to use at home for general stuff. I know nothing about this field someone told me to buy K240, is it considered good for general use?
>>
>>54722605
give it time, and I don't mean burn in just listening experience. a/b against your other stuff. eq.

I felt similar when I first got mine. I missed the more in-your-face aspects of my other headphones like the airy highs of my 668b or the bass of some of my closed headphones. where the 598 shine is the mids, and the little nuances in bass and highs. yes they're bass light, very little impact, but with some eq boost they're fine. I would say the only thing they're really "bad" at is very bass-centric music like some electronic, drone, doom, hip-hop etc. listen to some classical, acoustic music, and music that is vocal-centric. a/b a recording that has good female vocals and you'll hear them beat other headphones handily.

plus there is the comfort. I actually don't use mine that much for music, I use it as an all-day computer headphone for listening to radio, streams, etc. you can listen to them for a very long time without head or hearing fatigue.

Only headfi folks unironically praise this headphone, then your reaction is definitely understandable.

Nothing new here, basically everything you said corresponds to the stereotypical Sennheiser's house sound. Connecting the HD598 to a low output impedance source might help, but it won't make them sound drastically different.

No, burn in is a lie.

Seinheiser HD485. Would like a pair similar to these. I don't know much about them as my brother gave them to me a while back. Never looked into them, just have been using them for years and have enjoyed them. Recently the jack has gotten bent. They still work, but only on my PC it seems. Experts are saying the HE400s are better than the HD600. DT880s have spiky treble.
>>
Just recently got myself a Cambridge dacmagic plus to pair with my hd598's. The reports of it having a bright headphone stage are wrong. It's actually quite good. Also the volume knob is a lot better than I was lead to believe. So either they updated it or the engineering samples that went out for review were changed pre production, because this thing is awesome. To anyone looking for a DAC with balanced outputs don't believe the negative hype.
>>
>>54730325
I have hd598's and have had hd600, dt880 k712 and ad700. Your best bet is the hd600/650 because they will sound simlar but with a much wider sound stage and better imaging.

DT880 are mostly flat but the talk about treble emphasis is spot on, and they can be fatiguing for sensitive ears.

K712 can be anemic sounding without proper amping, but the hd600/650 will sound good until you get yourself a decent dac/amp combo. That said with proper amplification they're a different beast so you really have to try them out to decide for yourself.

>>54730789

>>54730943
Given his description of the HE400S it would seem that if you prefer forward treble the HD600 isn't for you, but then the dt880 may be given its stature as a well regarded headphone with excellent detail. I found the k712 to not have the peaks of the dt880, and be closer to the sennheisers in that area, so it might fall with the "relaxed" description. The only criticism I would level at the review is that in his discussion of the wall of fame he forgot to mention his change of mind on the matter of the sennheiser veil.

>Many will whine about it's slightly soft sound, "they have the Sennheiser veil," some will say, but I think this excellent headphone is just gentle on the ears.

and then in the review

>We've all heard the phrase, "the Sennheiser veil" regarding the HD 600/650, and I do think there's something to the criticism.

Of course I'm not going to twist that and say it's a direct contradiction or that he's a confused old man like some of the meme posters here, I only point it out to show that the increased treble may be a preference that has developed in his listening habits since his reviews of the hd600/650, and as such the poster requesting purchase advice might want to take this on board when considering headphones in this price bracket.

Quick question. Ordered some red sandalwood earbuds from Amazon.

Wasn't expecting much for 25 bucks, but they are way better than I was expecting for the price (still nowhere near top end). But the real curious part is the packaging it came with.

It was pretty awesome (pic related). Seemed like a gift set, honestly. But the instructions had QR codes on it, and when I scanned them, I was taken to apps for a skype alternative, and some sort of anonymous posting app.

Did this company take money from these apps (both made by different companies) to subsidize the cost of the headphones and gift box?
