I've been thinking about getting a new smartphone with an microsd card slot. I already have a OnePlus One that works fine and will probably last for a few more years but now I'm wishing my OPO had a microsd card slot so I could store my music.

I could use Google music with uncapped music streaming on my phone plan but Google music's uploader is so buggy for me. Maybe if I convert my music to ogg vorbis -q5 I could fit 2000 songs under 10gb.

Hi /g/, I don't know a lot about smartphones and I have a question. Why do people say the Moto G is such a good phone when you can have (apparently) better choices from chinese brands like Meizu or Xiaomi? What really makes the Moto G such a good phone as everyone says?
>>
Just ordered a Samsung A5, did i do good?
>>
>>54709114
It's just a meme bro
>>
>still use my trusty old HTC Desire HD
>still on Android 2.2, almost no apps for it
>volume button has fallen off, have to use a app for that
>on/off button is wonky, can't turn screen off, have to use app for that
>lately can't even turn the screen on, have to plug in my USB to get it up
>battery lasts like 15-20 minutes

And still I feel hesitant about buying a new phone because it still technically works.

After like 10+ big falls, no case or screen protector, and me generally not taking care of it the paint have chipped off like fuck, but it still doesn't have a single visible scratch on the screen. Fascinating.

Anyways, I assume the Redmi Note 3 Pro is the next logical poorfag update?

Not having bought a phone since well, fucking forever, is there anything special I should keep in mind? How is the Chinese botnet situation? Rooting?
I only use a prepaid card and live in Europe.

Is it safe to order it from stuff like AliExpress or should I try to find a more "legit" retailer?

Get a redmi 3 pro like I did, or an oukitel k4000 pro like my friend did.

The oukitel is cheaper and more durable, but the xiaomi has better specs. Both get similar battery life of around 9-10 hours SoT.
>>
>>54709296
Redmi note 3 pro Prime with 3gb ram
>>
>>54709365
The price on that Oukitel is pretty sexy I have to say. But I feel like I will just end up with a fairly obsolete phone fast.

What is the android update situation for these things? Do they just not care? Do they release 1 or two updates and then call it quits?
>>
>>54709151
If you already consider oukitel get the k6000 pro for >15hours screen on time

>>54709428

>>
>>54709414
xiaomi doesn't support all 4g bands in france, so no
>>
>>54709428
Updates won't be provided for long, but I didn't think that would matter since you're still on 2.2?

If updates matter, get the xiaomi since its guaranteed the update to marshmallow, oukitel have promised a marshmallow update but no idea if or when it's going to be released.

Or get >>54709435 because even bigger battery and much better specs. Although it's a bit more expensive.
>>
>>54709428

>>54709435
How does it compare to the Redmi 3 Pro? Considering they are around the same price and all.

Screen time isn't as important as the overall longevity of the thing, I don't get new phones very often as you can imagine, so I want it to last. Well as far as I can while still getting poorfag phones.

>>54709452
Ah I see.

>>54709469
>but I didn't think that would matter since you're still on 2.2?
Well I kinda don't want to end up in the same situation where I'm sitting around on a really old version only a short while after I get it.

is there an autistic databse of phones compatible with CM?

the CM wiki sucks and just posts them in groups of mfg, i want to see them based on "factory unlocked bootloader / rooted" and then its specs

and then also see a list of whether or not anyone is currently working on the phone, and not 1 alpha release that stopped being maintained

at the very least, is there a phone database that says if its booted and rooted and then you know CM vanilla could atleast be loaded
>>
>>54709201
Cheap phones often have gimped, shitty specs and build quality so they start lagging and falling apart in a year or two. Chink phones can be cheap and still solid, but most of them lack updates and are generally overlooked by custom ROM makers due to their diversity and Mediatek chips. There are three phones that might fall into your price category that are solid and have good update support: Nexus 5X is bound to get the best update support, Redmi 3 Pro, which will get frequent updates to it's MIUI interface, but Android version updates get to Xiaomis quite late in general. Third would be one of the Oukitel phones, anons have mentioned they will have support for newer android versions and so far I haven't seen anyone complain about their quality, despite Oukitel being a young phone maker.
>>
>>54709527
http://www.androidphonesinnigeria.com/unofficial-6-0-marshmallow-for-oukitel-k4000-pro-via-cm13/

It'll get official update eventually, but honestly I wouldn't expect much past that. They're a new company and they're pumping out more phones than they can afford to keep updated.

K4000, k4000pro, k6000, and k10000 are pretty much identical though so you might get lucky

>>
>>54709685

again, that requires a database with unlocked bootloader and rooted

which i also asked for

and there are plenty of non-alpha builds for phones, there are betas and some stables, and waiting for OEM security updates is more important than some fucking Instagram post with my camera which CM will provide immediately

Hi, looking for a dual sim phone in the 380 Eur range for taking to China for half a year, and afterwards using it in Germany.

What I'm looking for is
A) an unlockable bootloader and rootability
B) decent custom ROM support
C) decent specs as in storage (32GB + SD slot or 64GB bulit in) and memory (3GB), and a corresponding CPU. LTE is optional!

So far, I've looked at
- the LG G4, 380 Eur (bootloader locked for good)
- the Moto X Style, 370 Eur (EU version of the xt1572 model only operates on one SIM, and can't be told apart from other dual SIM versions)
- the Moto X Play, 280 Eur (looks pretty okay, although it's almost 100 Eur below my price threshold, so I'm wondering if there weren't even better alternatives, that's why the Moto G 3rd Gen is not really an option either)
- XiaoMi Mi5, 400 Eur (good specs, but custom ROM support doesn't seem great?)

I've yet to look into last year's Samsung, HTC and maybe Huawei flagships, and I'd appreciate any input and ideas, thanks!

That's because apple was being a jew and saved the money it would have cost to contract the sensors, you see how LG is now entering into business with them as a supplier. They're diversifying their camera options while Samsung probably paid a shitload for S7's Sony sensor. The Samsung Isocell's with a larger than 1.2µm-pixel are the ones that legitimately compete with Sony's.

This is honestly the information ive been wanting to hear, thank you so much anon. if you dont mind me asking:

* Is the non-expandable memory a pain in the ass or do you make 16 gigs work well? I back up my spotify playlists alot but other than that i dont know if standard usage will run up the memory or not

* does it fight you when you upload ROMs to it as badly as my s3 did? would it work well with cyanogenmod?

* despite it being light and plastic, how well does it do durably?

*have you ever taken it apart? if so how easy is it to dismantle? say if i want to replace the battery in it

I have a Huawei. It's saying I'm running out of space. I have 16gb internal memory and says that 10gb is being used up but it doesn't add up. It said apps were using most space but these are apps sorted by biggest from the top. I'm even using an sd card for default storage and still running out of space. Is this unfixable? Leather quality is top of the line. They are different though in each color. One mini fail down at the 3.5mm jack (see pic). Stitching is great.

>>54719004
Yes, atleast it's seems to be really secure. Back case clips down really tight, I was surprised that had to put medium pressure.
Yes, it gets somewhat noticeably warm, especially when gaming or recording 4K (recorded around 2minutes and was feeling hot), but it wasn't really uncomfortable since the hottest spot was near camera, where neither my finger nor my palm reaches. It's absolutely fine.

Gotta go right now, will come back later and reply to other posts.

Hello /spq/, i'm currently owning OPO chinkphone, and I have the opportunity to sell mine for 200€ in order to get a OP2 for 250€, should I go for it?
I've heard a ton of bad things concerning the OP2 so I was wondering weither or not I should go for it.

You need to also consider that the OP2 was bought in 04/2016, and the OPO in 03/2015, so I'd also get a warranty extension by buying the new phone.
>>
>>54719672
No, the OP3 is launching in a few days, wait for it. even if you can't afford it, it will cheapen the OP2 price.
>>
Is the Samsung gear vr worth getting? I'm getting an s7 edge soon and was interested in it since I'm not going to be getting an oculus or vive for my PC anytime soon.

Why aren't there any good devices that use an AMOLED screen?
The only two smartphones I've had were amoleds and I can't go back. That awful back light is a deal breaker for me.

There's only 3 devices since last year that have it that aren't complete shit. The Samsungs, the N6P and the One Plus X.
The S7 can't be rooted in my area and there probably will never be AOSP, the N6P is going to run even hotter and slower in the future with the 810, it's also too big.

The last hope is the One Plus X. Anyone have it? I'm a little weary of the 801 because it's so old, and can't imagine the camera is any good.
>>
>>54720336
Bc amoled is a meme
>>
>>54717812
It's an unlocked bootloader right? Why not just spend a week flashing different ROMs till you find one that works the best for you?
Is AOSP not available for it?
>>
>>54718940
Congrats. The Exynos variant is better in terms of performance, and being able to remove all the Samsung shit while keeping their hardware framework, makes for essentially a perfect device
I'm jealous.
>>
>>54708486
My recently delivered Mi5 has the global ROM on it which the vendor flashed onto it.

Now I would like to get the original Chinese ROM back onto it, so the vendor advised me to hard reset it.

Will this really set it back to the original ROM?

Phone is not rooted, nor is the bootloader unlocked.
>>
>>54720336
What the hell do you mean the s7 cannot be rooted in your area? Just buy the unlocked version (930-f model) and stop being a pussy. That's what I did and i'm happy as fuck with my device

>>
>>54720557
I'm not familiar with that. I'm in the US and have to use Verizon. From what I know the 820 version is locked down tight from both Samsung and the carrier.
It's possible to get an EU version of it that works on US bands?
>>
>>54720661
Take your pick of the Spigen cases, just avoid the thin one since it allows the front screen to crack too esaily

I actually really like the wallet, phone case combo because it's one less thing I have to lug around or lose
>>
>>54720684
Well idk why the hell you would be on verizon if you are in the EU. The 930-f variant has the eyxnos processor as well as GSM bands so it'll support carriers like AT&T as well as t-mobile, and for verizon you could get their LTE on it, but anything lower than LTE on verizon you would not be able to pick up. I currently live in the US and use the 930-f model and it works absolutely fine for me.
>>54720486

I'm getting my device from T-Mobile. I'm thinking of going with either the 10 or the 6S. I will be purchasing this weekend because I need to get a phone.

Main concerns are battery life and audio quality. I've had Android phones up until now, but I would be willing to switch platforms. I associate with a lot of iPhone users, so I would get a lot of usage out of iMessage. I also own a Macbook. Just concerned about the battery life of the 6S, especially screen on time for reading. Some people are saying it's great, and others say it's total crap

You prefer android to iOS even though you use a Mac? That seems like it'd be an easy choice.
Also, the A9 is more power efficient and the Iron hand of apple reigns in a lot of the power inefficient apps that Android has to constantly deal with.
I don't know about the kind of DAC that the iphone uses, but I think it's the one place the HTC probably beats it out.

Also the HTC has a pro mode for camera shooting, but the auto mode isn't very good, and likes to blow the highlights all the way out. Apple has always under saturated a little though, and I don't think they allow for manual controls (idk if that's true.)
