The Reference Fury X comes with a reference liquid cooling system. Liquid cooled GPUs are cooler than air cooled. There are going to be plenty of liquid cooled designs for the 1080, just as there are for every generation of nvidia gpus.

That's because it thermal throttles at 82c and will only maintain stock clock speeds. It can't maintain boost clock for more than 10 minutes. If you change the thermal limit to 92c it won't throttle,or you can run the fan at 100% for a breezy 67c under load.
