I bought a cherry red board and used it for the whole month and I just ended up using scissor-switch keyboard after a while.
You people are dumb for sticking with 40 year old keyboard technology.

Should I keep searching for a cheap Model M or go testicles shallow and purchase a Unicomp?

Also, are there any known problems with using a PS/2 --> USB converter, such as input lag or crappy responsiveness?

Thanks in advance, I have to skedaddle in a moment.

Yeah it's terrible.

You should also switch to an ball mouse, that way there's no optical lag between when the light is emitted and when it's processed. Every little bit helps.

Any advice about the AK33?
basically, I'm looking for a 75% with this keyboards exact layout; it's divine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQoL3Wrlx7g

If there is a better, hopefully cheaper 75%, I'd love to be pointed in the right direction.
It will be babby's 1st, so I'm undecided about clickclack, but if blue switches are a better choice than black, I've no qualms.

The only detail I am unsure of is replacing the keycaps - how do I find out what ones are compatible woth this model?
>>

You will never fnd keycaps.

This is what you want. Same thing with a cooler case and no retarded layout.

Plus you can get it as a kit and save a bunch along with choosng any switch.

Something with a bit of resistance, so I can feel it whenever I press. Don't like soft keys because I have a tendency to mispress keys, so I want something that won't press unless I play a good amount of force on it.

I have had a blackwidow chroma for a year one, I want to change it for a better one since I know it will broke soon.
Im looking for a more silent keyboard, preferably with numpad and macro, and if its doesnt have custom LED that at least is a good looking keyboard.

When I bought this one I actually wanted to get the Corsair K70 or the APEX M800. But there was no way to get it in my country.

But I really like this keyboard, the macros are really helpful, I use a lot the numpad and the lights are really nice. My only problem is that its still Razer and all my friend's keyboard have broke after a year.

>>
>>54701435

They are two different things.

The b.mini x2 is a korean custom, and one of the better ones at that. There isn't really anything above it. It has underlighting, backlighting, good switches, a good case, full reprogramability, and is actually compatible with after market keysets. All told it would probably cost you $200.

The ak33 on the other hand is a dirt cheap chinese board. Not programable and with shit keycaps (that you can't replace due to non-standard layout). The switches are a no-name company, knockoffs of chinese knockoffs. So expect grittiness, chattering or other issues with them. I wouldn't be surprised to see LED failures quite soon after purchase, either. Oh and you will probably have 0 warranty support.

The ak33 is probably hit or miss depending on the switches. If you just want something cheap to get away from nasty rubber domes, it is a fine choice. If you want something good, look elsewhere. I am not saying buy the b.mini, it is a very expensive board. But there is probably some middle ground between the two choices. Haven't really kept an eye out on the layout so I couldn't tell you.

i would reccomend the keycool 84 over the noppoo choc if you intend on ever replacing the caps(otherwise go with the choc because the stock caps are better). it has a way more standard layout

I have that keyboard. Bought it from AliExpress and got Gateron Reds from MassDrop. I regret nothing, it lets me use different kinds of switches (right now I have all reds with the Home cluster using blues).
I don't know why the "browns are better for typing" meme gets perpetuated, reds are great for extended typing sessions.

>>
Stupid question incoming

I recall you need a USB to PS2 adapter for a mechanical keyboard to use NKRO properly.

Now I got a Rosewill RGB80 that doesnt seem to play well with the adapter. Should USB be sufficient?
>>
>>54707615
AFAIK the choc mini uses Gaterons, yes. Gateron Browns supposedly are smoother (like all Gaterons) and have a high and more pronounced bump.

>>54707713
I didn't know NKRO was dependent on the interface, but apparently you're right. It has nothing to do with wether it's mechanical or not, just with USB. Some USB keyboards achieve NKRO by acting as a USB hub with several keyboards attached.
So if your keyboard is one of those great, if not you might be limited to something like 10KRO. Is this really an issue though? Do you press 10 keys simultaneously often?
>>
Can anyone recommend a good 60% without caps? I have caps in mind already, so I'm just looking for a base with switches.

I just came to this thread randomly, so it's all about custom keyboards?

I'm using an old razer blackwidows from like, 2012, and after checking each pic of this thread, no offense, but i still find mine better looking,

yea yea yea it's not about the style but about how good it works but i can only see the first aspect there.

tried to fill the buyer template

1) Budget
My old one costed 140$, so i believe up to 140$ once again

2) Location
France

3) Preffered switch type
The razer was my only Mech Kboard and the switch are blue if i remember correctly, no idea.
I checked the switches pic(http://i.imgur.com/5uKCsvv.png), but hard to say what I would prefer since i'm not even sure of what I have.
the razer got some really big noise when i click, but i guess it's just about hearing or not the click? I wear headphones so idc that much.
maybe a stiff medium will feet? I don't get what is "rare" btw

4) Layout
ISO

5) Form factor
- 100% - full keyboard with function keys, navigation section and numpad,
I don't need the keys that are generally above the arrows.

6) Backlight
Do I want LED? ofc i do

7) Previous/current keyboard

Razer BlackWidow ultimate edition 2012, i like it, but never tried something else so can't tell you really, open to something new/better

The model M was made in 1993, and it has colored text on the modifiers. I ordered a replacement F11 key for it. It came with a ps/2 cable.

The others have colored text on the modifiers as well, and they have 5 pin cables.

Im looking for a mechanical keyboard and im very picky. Pic related seems to fit most of my criteria, the only thing i dont like is the lighting and the gaymer reputation. The normal k65 doesnt have rgb lighting but it has wasd keys in different colors which is even worse.
Here are the things im looking for:
>mx reds
>ANSI
>tenkeyless
>i want the keys really high on the keyboard with no "walls" around it so i can easily clean it
>black
>no lighting
>seperate media keys for volume

Are there any alternatives that fit all of these criteria? Otherwise im just gonna buy the k65 rgb and turn off the lights. Also, do you need to turn off the lights every time you start up your computer or do they stay off forever?
