I remember I stopped using firefox back in the day on XP because it quite often took 2gb of ram browsing the web with 2 or 3 tabs.

This. I explicitly remember buying 128 MB of ram when upgrading from 98 because the games that worked perfectly on 98 stopped due to lack of ram.
