My gentootop has been killing my sanity also with these mistakes or fixes.

Installing gentoo
>boot iso up
>wget stage 3 tarball
>extract and compile
>configure kernel options
>compile kernel
>create partitions with fdisk
>chroot to your new environment
>configure date, locale, keyboard
>install grub
>configure some more shit
>exit chroot
>umount and reboot
and I think that's it

Use a DE (LXDE is the lightest if that matters to you)
