2016- Why aren't you using a CRT monitor?
this model can do 1920x1440 @75hz desktop and 1024x768 @ 152hz in FPS games.
all of that for less than £50

I'm just waiting for a 2048x1536 one to show up on craigslist.
Last year I saw two 1920x1440 models and a 2048x1536 model that the owner was offering $30 for someone to take them off his hands. Hoping for another deal like that

>but anon they're so heavy

>>
>>54686557
There is issue with sharpness.
All CRTs loses focus after time. Same as LCDs loses brightness.
>>

>>
>>54687288
The Sony GDM-FW900 is probably what you're looking for. However, those things are pretty rare to come by, and any sane person would only sell it to you on-location due to its weight. They also cost an arm and leg if you even find people selling them.

Which is why you keep a widescreen monitor for movies, not rocket science here.

>>54687663
>but 4:3 is just terrible
Yet better than 16:9 and 16:10
>>
>>54687663
4:3 was also driven by television standards, which was why it was shit. 16:10 is the only acceptable aspect ratio for use on computers.

Not even close when it comes to black level, or motion performance for that matter. Also all LCDs suck for legacy games and such that require low resolutions.
>>
yeeah, don't think I'd trade slightly better motion for worse contrast, screen estate, much lower PPI and resolution.
>>
>>54687824
Thankfully OLED will get rid of that and place itself ahead of both CRT and LCD for everything your last point.
>>
I used one for a few months a couple of years back.

It was so bulky I had barely any space left on my desk, and it had color issues that I couldn't straighten out no matter how much I fiddled with the controls.

It couldn't be helped so I switched back to LCD.

Because eye cancer. I don't want eye cancer.

Also there's numerous advantages of using digital over analog (HDMI or DVI over VGA), the CRT itself is very power-inefficient, heavy, large, and subjectively I find them rather aesthetically unappealing. I desktop monitor barely has any bezel, I wouldn't have it any other way.
>>
>>54687880
OLED has failed to deliver so far

* blue emitter half life remains under 20k hours
* poor rendering of shadow details
* can't be driven hard enough to match CRT motion
* uniformity issues (green and pink tinting)

etc

I'm used to a 144Hz 1440p monitor.
My 980Ti died a month ago and i actually used a CRT for a while but it gave me a headache.
The strobing is on a too low frequency, the model i had could handle 1920x1440 at 75Hz as well, might've been the same since it looks exactly the same (same brand as well).

Also the sharpness and image quality/positioning was a BITCH to get right.
The black levels were fucking GOD TIER though, we really need that on our flat monitors as well...

PC monitors suck for consoles because you need to go through a converter which leads to quality loss and/or latency. Good for emulation, though.

Hardcore console gamers usually use high end CRT broadcast/medical monitors, but those suck for PC use.

at those refresh rates, not too bad

75 is a tad low for desktop use on a crt though, it's a mite flickery on most computer CRTs I've used, at least it isn't 60 on a computer CRT (like looking into a strobe -- had an old iMac that I almost considered running at 640x480 because it was like 120hz, I wanted to run it at 1024x768, but 60 was murdering my eyes, ran it at 75hz (maybe it was 85hz?) at 800x600 to compromise)
152 is super fucking comfy. Picture looks rock solid and it's smooth like butter.

screen size is probably the biggest issue -- CRTs take up room, but are generally kind of small displays, you can get a pretty big LCD, and a 60hz LCD doesn't flicker and murder your eyeballs

Aperture grille monitors are superior to shadow masks. If the screen is perfectly flat (i.e. not curved outward) chances are it's an aperture grille tube. If they're used, check for burn-in and other signs of wear/damage where possible.

I had an LG tv with a lot of input lag in which there was almost a quarter of a second between pressing the button and donkey kong jumping, I realized there was a problem because levels I had a hard time beating when looking at the tv, I could beat much more easily when looking at the Wii U gamepad which has very little input lag.
I solved the problem with gamemode, but it made the image much uglier. I ended up gifting the tv to my mother so she could watch netflix shit on it, and buying a pc monitor for videogames.

It will say, most are early and suitable only for character-based displays.

They have a slow refresh rate because the phosphor allows the image to persist longer.

I just pride the glass off my Thunderbolt Display, I didn't hurt it or anything.

Also I colored in all the shiny bits with a black marker.
>>
>>54685791
>@75hz
Back when I used a CRT I didn't go lower than 85hz. It was too much of an eye strain.
>>
>>54696726
I know what you did, I was laughing at you in your thread as hard as I'm laughing now. Dumbass.
>>
>>54696758
How exactly did I screw up though?

That glass served no purpose, wasn't even coated, and provided two more air to glass interfaces for glare.

The picture is better now, better contrast, color, etc. You're just one of those pajeets who was mad that I was able to afford to casually tear into and devalue some of the "overpriced" Apple gear.

Don't you mod you stuff? I have Zeiss binoculars that I 'shaved' as well as expensive cameras which are so treated, and my Minox monocle is matted and darkened with permanent ink.
>>
>>54696792
>Don't you mod you stuff?
Of course, but my mods don't ruin my things in the process.
>>
>>54696806
>ruin
You still haven't explained how I ruined anything.

I in fact substantially enhanced it.
>>
>>54696833
Look at it, it looks like you pulled it out of a fucking dumpster. Was it so difficult to just buy a matte monitor?
>>
>>54696860
What matte monitor comes with firewire, usb, and ethernet ports onboard?

It's a good look, looks like a monitor you'd find in the Jefferies tube of an older starship.
>>
>>54696874
Good point, but no, it looks like a monitor you pulled out of the trash and attacked with a sharpie
>>
>>54696860
Also I tucked a piece of paper in front of the camera, can't be too careful with the iAMT / vPro botnet.
>>
>>54696882
Except the screen is nicer to look at and the bezel is less shiny, so overall it's a better viewing experience as a monitor.

As an interior design piece it's obviously hopelessly ruined.
>>
>>54696886
You seem to love devaluing your shit, why not just poke the camera with an awl?
>>
>>54696910
>devaluing
Oh it just burns.

Do you constantly buy and sell your gear on eBay so you can have the newest thing?

If not who cares about 'devaluing?'
>>
>>54696937
Of course not, but it's nice to not have all my possessions look like ass like yours apparently do. It is nice to know that my devices are in good condition should I ever choose to sell them though.

I have stuff on my desk that plebs will never touch.

you can play 6th and 7th gen games on a PC CRT via a VGA cable and they look great, although it applies more to 6th gen since more games were in 4:3 aspect ratio, and with PS2 the games had to be 480p.

With the PS2 games can go up to 1080i and a lot of games that can't can be forced to

Input lag is less about visuals, and more about feel. Playing with lower input lag feels better, because there's less delay between what you do and what is represented on the screen. Also it gives your brain more time to process the information, just like having more frames does.

anyone have experiences with old 1080i plasma TVs? Theyre even larger than CRTs but damn they look good. Some of them are supposedly 600hz and have insane refresh rates. Does that translate through the VGA port in the back?

16:10 isn't the best till they make 4k/5k monitors in the format. Currently that doesn't exist and 4k gives you more vertical and horizontal space than 1600p

Was $550 and it is. Sorry I don't use a shit tier low resolution square CRT. Give me a 4k/1440p CRT that isn't 19 inches and doesn't cost me 5k and I'll consider it.

Sorry you are too poor to afford a decent monitor anon.
