Let's talk cell service plans:

Right now I'm on the $35/mo T-Mobile "unlimited" (actually 5gig) 100 minute plan. I've recently been running out of minutes, and blew my data cap this month.

What are some cell plans that have unlimited talk and text, with over 5 gigs of data that don't cost an arm and leg?
>>
None in America, you got the only one.

If you don't mind Sprints network Boost is the alright.
>>
>>54684606

they all technically have unlimited data

if you want a service with unlimited LTE data, then you aren't gonna find one that cost at least $60
>>
>>54684606
Use google voice for extraneous phone calls (tech support, checking in with someone for 10 seconds).

Outside of that the overage is 10 cents a minute dude lol. There's lots of leeway just chill on your usage; 480p youtube and normal quality music streaming will put you under the 5gb.

Stop being a baby and practice self control, you already have the best-value plan in America.

Eastern Europe here.

Family cellular plan for 4 people

Unlimited calls, text, MMS.
25GB monthly data plan, after 25GB it slows down

Social media traffic (like facebook, twitter, instagram) doesn't count to the overall number of used data.

My share is 10USD/month
Make it times four.
>>

what have you been doing to go through that data cap. I'm not even half through mine is your binge on turned on?

>>54684749
The throttled data is actually unusable. They don't just slow down the speed, it times out about 3/4 of the time.

Simple Mobile, $55 gets you unlimited talk, text, and 10GB of 4G LTE data. $60 gets you "unlimited" 4G and I've seen people push as high as 25+GB with no throttling.

It's a prepaid MVNO that uses T-Mobile's network so you'll get the exact same coverage you have now.

They also have a $50 plan with unlimited talk/text and 5GB of 4G data, and a $40 plan with 4GB of data.

Unless you are currently financing your phone through a carrier there is literally no reason not to go with a prepaid MVNO.
>>
>>54696725
How many GB of hotspot does simple mobile give you? Currently looking at the $55 unlimited boost plan and $60 simple mobile plan. boost gives you 8GB of hotspot with their unlimited plan.
>>
>>54684606

I am paying abouy $100 a month for a 5gb Softbank plan.

It is thag high because there are two phones still being payed for on the plan. You have to buy your phones from Softbank because for 4g devices, every sim card has a unique APN login and they wont give it to you to use your own.

Without the phones it is around $50 a month, still extremely high.

Once my contract is up, I am gonna switch to SIMFree. Closer to $20 a month there.
>>
>>54696815
one thing to remember about hotspot limits, they can be bypassed by using a hotspot software that isn't the one built into your mobile OS.

Plenty of apps on the store do this and you can do it internally with some ROMs as well.

Idk i don't have boost but I heard that people root the phones and delete some file in the system partition that keeps track of that stuff. Once you do that then boost can't distinguish between your cellphone usage and hotspot usage so everything gets charged as cellular use.

Maybe make a thread on /g/ later about boostmobile and see if anyone can clarify.

Damn, that's good. Too bad it's CDMA based, I think I'd have to get a new phone to switch over.

I found a chrome extension called "Data Saver" by google, it tracks my data useage by website and supposedly optimizes webpages to save on bandwidth.

I'll ask around is /sqt/ general and the /wsr/ board, thanks. Most phones are getting harder and harder to root especially with android lollipop and beyond so using legit hotspot under ToS seems like the only way to go nowadays.

Ringplus has some "free" plans that simply requires you to keep a balance on your account. Sorta like a deposit. As long as you don't overuse the minutes and the deposit (auto-top off) is still there, you get free service of xyz amount of minutes/data/text.

I actually havent tried it, but it could be interesting to test it for those with sprint/verizon phones.

>$10/GB of data
lmao
>>
>>54698588
I use Three too.
$10 for 10 GB data, no time limit.
Previously, I needed 9 months to spend 10 GB data.
Not a bad deal if you're only using it for Whatsapp.
>>
>>54696602
Update your plan.

Also, the people that use more than 25 GB on the unlimited plans get "throttled" anyway.
>>
>>54684606
fuck that, just use google hangouts + google voicemail + whatsapp to handle as much of your talk over your data/wifi as possible.

I have your same plan (I only pay $30 though, hehehe), and it just werks(tm) for me.
>>
>>54703747
Not really. They get de-prioritized during congestion which means when too many people are downloading tranny porn at the same time your connection is throttled to 2-4Mbps. It's not the same as the 128Kbps throttle they impose after you use all of your high speed data. When network congestion goes away you return to your normal 6-20Mbps data speeds and said congestion does not happen everywhere.

The best plan you can get it in Canada (through Telus' Public Mobile web-only MVNO).

It's still rather expensive.
>>
>>54703938
It really depends are where you. If enough people are trying to use data and shit in your area it gets dropped way lower because of the lower priority.
>>
>>54704062
True but that rarely happens and is a sign of a desperately needed tower upgrade. Also data speeds will always be the best after midnight so downloading torrents/ big files should always be done during that time anyway.

>wife and I get 2 for $100 Unlimited Everything T-Mobile plan.
>daughter will one day need cellphone
>$40 to add her on to the plan.
>>
>>54704161
It's actually more of an issue in cities or on campuses. Data rates are better after midnight mostly because normies are asleep.
>>
>>54704247
You can get like 4 lines for like $125.
>>
T mobile 2 line all unlimited for $100

~108 after tax

Best shit ever.
>>
>>54704330
T-Mobile gives you the fourth line free. So. 140 for 4 lines.

When is Google fi coming to yurp?

What's the difference between 4g and LTE
>>
>tfw brazilian
>tfw 12$/mo for 2GB 4G and 30 minutes
>>
>>54689759
I pay $40 a month for 5gig and unlimted talk text web. They throttle after 8 or so gigs. I ise the cdma version of phones which run on the Verizon side of things through ST otherwise you have to use GSM and ATT is shit even on 4g. I have 30meg down but my brother only gets 3-4meg on the GSM. I was a bit pissed though I missed a free VR gear headset if I had bought an S7 through ST. Also never have had a problem with reception or texting.
>>
>>54704516
Same thing in marketing terms.

Technically "4G" does not exist at all. It's supposed to deliver up to 1,000 Mbps to a stationary user and up to 100 Mbps to a user in motion.

What we do have is LTE and true 3G which is CDMA. LTE can deliver up to ~37 Mbps and CDMA up to ~2.7Mbps to a stationary user. Both are true 3G technologies with LTE being 3.5G.

I use GoSmart, maybe consider it?
pic related.
i get a dropped call every once in a while, although that hasnt happend in like 2 months.

it works for me since i primarily use my phone to send and receive pics. minimal browsing on the 4g lte since I work from home and don't go out much.
>>
What the fuck are you guys doing if 5 GB a month isn't enough? I have to share an 8gb plan and get by just fine.
>>
>>54706592
Good for you. Some of us watch youtube/netflix and torrent on our phones. That alone takes up like 40GB of data each month for me.
>>
>>54706592
An hour of skype uses quite a bit of data. If you even watch youtube shit for couple of hours, its a goner.

This is a smart phone meant to be used for functions other than simply calling.

The questionis not what people are doing with 5GB but rather why are you not even breaking 5 GB?
>>
unlimited data/text, 10GB
£19.99 a month
>>
>>54684606
$35/month?

Did they change it? I use the same plan but it is 30 per month, been using it for 2 and a half years now
>>
>>54700083
M8, I live in Australia and we all use GSM. Australia is bigger than the United States and we 95% coverage.
>>
>>54707623
Cunt, 95% of the population of Australia is covered, not 95% of the landmass. More of Aus's population is concentrated, considering that the whole middle of the country is virtually uninhabitable. The US has a more spread out population, requiring much more coverage.
>>
>>54684606
I have the same plan OP but mine's $30 per month.

Why is yours $35?
