Interested in a high-resolution music player, how does a 1st gen FiiO X3 compared with a 2nd gen FiiO X1? I'd be buying used.

The "Hi-Res" aspect of these players is irrelevant in playback which is what they are for. Get yourself a DAP if you need one but there's no point in paying attention to "Hi-Res Audio".
