DDR4 APUs when?
>>54674184
Supposedly Q4 this year.
>>54674687
Will it be as good value as previous gen or should I just drop the $100 on an a8 7650k?
>>54674808
We dont know yet, as its supposed to be the dropping of Zen, some GPU tech, and a new socket amongst other things.
>>54674833
Hopefully higher frequency ddr4 prices drop too by then. Still on an i5 750 and HD5870, so this should be a decent upgrade.

Well, the jump to a Zen/Polaris APU, which is likely what the next gen will be will at minimum match your current setup for a hell of alot less power.
If AMD chooses to equip the next gen APUs with on-package HBM, they'll beat the shit out of your current setup.

I want to see Haswell-e with the new G.skill 3466MHz CL 14 DIMMs just announced, or the 4266MHz CL 19 ones in quad channel.

I think Zen based APUs were mentioned to be released some time late 2017 or early 2018
They want to focus on Performance & Server chips first.
I overclcoked my DDR3 ram from 1600mhz 10 10 10 27 to 2133 10 11 11 31.
I haven't had crashed, ran some memory stress test, full system stress test and no problems, how can I make sure it is 100% stable?
Also does changing to 10 12 12 31 could give me more stability at cost of minimal performance drop?

Is ram overclocking a thing? So I can oc my ddr3 1333 too?
I mean, it's currently on 1450mhz, but I can go higher?
>>54675174
Probably, I went from 1600 mhz to 2133 by just increasing the voltage from 1.50 to 1.55 and losning the timings slightly.
I'm sure I could hit 2400mhz with loose timings.
>>54675174
yes. it's luck of the draw though, usually ddr3 1333 is bottom of the barrel binning and won't OC very well. my 1333 got to 1666 but i had to go to 1.65v and 9-10-9-24 timings, which is atrocious.

Bristol Ridge launches in a few days, but its max supported speed is 2400mhz.
AMD's last two APUs have had a 3rd party memory controller, and they flat out cannot handle memory frequencies any higher than that without a base clock OC.
You'll have to wait until Raven Ridge sometime in 2017 for a real DDR4 APU. Bristol Ridge is a hackjob.
>>54674687
No.
>>54674687
more like in a few weeks. AMD is launching excavator APUs with the AM4 platform.
AMD literally needs a NUC equivalent. Consumer desktops are getting smaller and they need to jump on that trend.
>>54675233
My ram is as old as my system (roughly 4 years).
>>54675332
A nuc APU would be fucking awesome, even if it needs active cooling I'd still love one just for cheap steam games on my 50 inch telly.
