I've been out of the loop on everything tech related for a long time, but I'm wondering.

Years ago I liked to download stuff on Usenet but now it appears the whole thing has been devastated by DMCA takedowns. How do I get around that/what is the best alternative?

I'm not interested in "joining a community" or maintaining a seed ratio on a private tracker, nor do I want to deal with the pitiful quality, risk, and 800MB yify downloads on public trackers.
