So I want to buy a Chromebook as a cheap laptop I can take with me when I don't need to take a "real" laptop. I want to keep Chrome OS but also proper Linux as well so either dual boot or chroot or whatever the current thing is (crouton still?).
The most important things are
> x86 cpu
> good screen (res not a big issue but I don't want an awful panel)
> decent keyboard
Suggestions fellow technoguys?

Nice. Quick question, can you replace the SSD in them? I know it is shitty eMMC so it is pretty slow but I would like to stick at least a 64GB drive in it

Nope. SD for expanding memory.

toshiba chromebooks don't have IPS panels
he needs an acer one
>>54655827
scratch that, it seems that some of them do come with IPS panels now
still not sure about the CB35 tho
I'm also interested.
This may be too much to ask, but is there anything for a similar price with a 12 inch display?

>eMMC
eMMC isnt really all that bad anymore, its not as fast as a usually 2.5 inch SSD but it has the same low latency response time a SSD has and average R/W of a desktop HDD

oh thats good to know. i remember the days of eMMC being like 15MB/s read/write and it was painful. So they get closer to 80MB/s read/write these days then?
Shame I cant upgrade the eMMC myself. How about the RAM or is that soldered on as well?

Can linux be installed onto it?
