Yes it's possible but it would be some sort of voluntary botnet. Like if Ubuntu wanted to put some sort of Siri/Cortana and those things need to collect insane amount of data to even function. But it wouldn't be ingrained in the OS and you could always remove it if you wanted. People bitched a lot about the Amazon thing but removing it took one fucking click.
