From what you're coming from it wouldn't really matter, both DDR3 and DDR4 would be a nice upgrade, the cost difference between DDR3 and 4 is insignificant enough just get DDR4 cause it's newer.

I dont know if this is right thread to ask, but I couldnt find any better.

I asked this already in speccy thread but got no answer.

I probably picked up worst time to whole PC upgrade, but I kinda want to do one near the end of July.

Currently have i5-750, P55M-UD2 motherboard, GTX 660, 8gb of DDR3 RAM, some okay PSU I forgot the name.

Upper limit is 780 EUR. I guess I could take RAM from previous machine, just like Im intend to take all HDDs (250gb old one housing OS and two 1tb, with two additional 1tb drives serving as backups and connected externally).

I kinda wanted to take i7-6700K as CPU, so I wont have to replace it for next 3-5 years (like Im running on my i5-750 since 5 or more), but Im afraid if I could fit the money range. Also, have no idea what GPU to buy - before Nvidia announced their new line, I wanted to buy 960, as 970 was 1,5 times more expensive.

Thank you for any advices.

>>
>>54657903

FUCK WAITING.

Sorry for getting angry, but Im using same PC since like 5 or more years, with last two waiting for chance to upgrade, with hearing "WAIT FOR X" all the time.

Also, I dont see a reason why ZEN should be something for me. Newly released CPU would cost a lot and so far I noticed that while AMD CPUs are good at multi-core tasks, Intel ones beat it hard at single-core tasks. And Im afraid I would have better use of single-core performance, more often than multi-core at least.

>>54657913

You mean the AMD cards?
>>
>>54657913

It's like you wanted to do something really badass and highend with hardline water cooling, but you either cheaped out not having the budget to do a full build, or you simply don't really understand the point of a custom water loop.

You have no VRM waterblocks, no RAM water blocks, and you went with Z170 instead of x99a and broadwell-e which would actually get some good use from a nice high end water loop like that.

I digress, but you fucked up.
>>
>>54667040
I got the hardware I wanted and decided to go water last second. I honestly just did it for the looks more than practicality.
>>
>>54667145
I figured it must have been something like that. Not to be rude or anything, but it's far from a well thought out water loop.

Still should be decently badass, just don't expect to set OC records or anything.
>>
>>54667145
>I honestly just did it for the looks more than practicality.
No shit, custom loops aren't practical.
>>
>>54667177
>custom loops aren't practical
Yeah problem is he is in the inbetween zone of why even bother, at least if you get VRM waterblocks and RAM waterblocks and shit you can OC to 5Ghz+ on most CPUs safely. Making it a bit more "worth" it.

But with just a GPU and CPU on the loop you'll only be able to squeeze a very slight amount of performance more than a normal high end air cooler or good AIO. The VRMs and the RAM will end up being the biggest problem in your OC just because they're still being air cooled.

>Buying expensive Lian li case instead of building one yourself from 5mm or thicker metal
Just make some cardboard models to make sure every hole is at right (standard) place. I welded together a huge ATX case in 2001 and have used it for five setups to this day. There is absolutely no vibrations like there is even at these Lian li cases. Welded, sandblasted and painted at work during few lunch hours and cost me like 5$.
>>
>>54670622
Depends how much you value your time, most people wouldn't manage to do something like that without at least 20-30 hours of work (planning everything out, welding, sanding, painting, etc).

That's easily a $300+ case once you take that time into account. Either you spend the time yourself, or you're paying someone like Lian-Li
>>
>>54670666
Time that is wasted anyway, doesnt have any value to me.

>That's easily a $300+ case once you take that time into account.
Its easily 800$ dollar case once you take into account of no mass production and western salaries.

Either way, its a case you cannot even buy at store, even the most expensive cases are using thin metals, which produce all kinds of sounds (by resonating, vibration). So the estimated price is irrelevant.

What the fuck is up with those tubes? It looks like they were too large for the fittings and you sanded them down. It looks like shit and has a high chance of leaking.

>>54667670
Damn that looks bad. I wouldn't normally judge someone too much on aesthetics but it's obvious that was your main goal here. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't all rigid tubing fittings just friction fit? That combined with your sanded down tubes and having an open "case" means that one day you're going to knock that fucker and make it leak.

These were taken yesterday, BRAND new build I got. Added two more sticks of RAM today and a 2m string of super bright blue LEDs.

>>54672425
The case is APEVIA X-QBER comes in a bunch of different colors. $60 USD. :) I fell in love as soon as I saw it and built a Mini ATX just so I could use it. I was Originally going to get a Phantom 820, you can see the similarities.

>>
>>54672490

It isn't a K version. I don't overclock. Stock fan is plenty on any non-K i7 CPU.

However, just got the same of aesthetics I do plan on looking for a nice fan that will match my case/theme.

A picture with the new LEDs. Not the greatest picture, and it looks much better in a darker setting.

I will be ordering another 2m string of white LEDs this week to line the top of the case and I think it'll be really nice. :D

using normal ram, using my servers for critical stuff so dont need it in here.

also, search for cases that support EATX, the mobo is SSI-EEB which is the same dimensions as a full EATX board just need to drill and tap 3 or 4 extra standoff holes as EATX amd SSI-EEB does not fully match that way, it misses some holes in the center, corners and sides are present though.

My old build that i'm in the process of into a unraid server with a sketchy brand sata controller and a ton of HDDs dumped into it. Even has a bluray reader to rip blurays.

This is the only time I ever wished for integrated graphics, and I finally found a use for that shitty GT210 I bought at a flea market for $10.

Im about to go back in to move the pump to the PSU side of the case. Then finally get around to them custom cables.

Then It's gotta all come apart for my GTX 1080 that's coming. Hope EK has a block fast. Might just end up buying 2 and being done with it.

Not even close to it (yet).

850 EVO is the windows disk that i'm keeping windows in case I need it.

3TB Toshiba is the parity drive, Intel SSD is the cache, and i'm planing on doing cache parity later.

So That leaves about 6.5? Probably 6TB when formatted.

I plan to slowly replace every HDD besides the parity.

Yeah fitting were 1/2 while bends were 12mm. I have the right tubing ordered but Saturday's are the only days I get to mess with it so the right size should go on next weekend or the one after.

Still some tweaking to do, but this is it for now.
>>
>>54674252
What do you need that for?

RAID isn't a backup and shouldnt be treated as such.

I have a lot of media as well, but i just run a regular backup, no need to fuck with RAID. Not like i'm needing 24/7 uptime or anything.
>>
>>54674325

Its not raid. I'm just planing to run unraid as a simple NAS + PLEX.

But more importantly, It allows me to move all my HDDs out of my main rig so that annoying spinning disk sound is no longer there.
>>
>>54674309
Well, it has a cover at least. I still wouldn't trust that GPU to rad run. I'd replace most of those runs with a single tube with multiple bends, that's one of the main benefits of rigid tubing, looks being probably the only other benefit and all those fittings look like junk.
>>
>>54674397
When the right tubing comes in, I'll bend it up and get rid of all the fittings. Outside of the fittings, any other tips?
>>
>>54674436
Regarding the loop I'd flip the order so it goes from the CPU and into the top of the res (possibly run it down and under the RAM if it'll fit) and then pump to rad.

Another option that would get rid of that long run from the GPU would be to have it go to the res instead, extend the CPU run a bit to go to the rad and then from the rad to the pump.

There may be even better ways if you're able to flip the rad so the ports are at the top.
>>
>>54674390
Get a smaller chassi you dingus.
>>
>>54674571
The rad can be flipped, but theres lettering on top of it that would be upside down so it would bother me (dumb, I know).

And the GPU > Rad line, I was going to run the cables around it, but couldn't get it to look right.

Current order is as follows:
Res > Pump > CPU > GPU > Rad > Res

I hope for a cheap EVGA 1070 or a 980Ti below 350 €. Retards are selling their old shit, I already saw ones for 400 €, but I don't want to give that much for old used tech.
>>54651796
You really need it, your computer can't handle browsing anymore. Do you want to buy new? A used 2500K DDR3 system is the best option for now. DDR4 is only worth it when you go for 3000+ MHz.
>>54651837
Why? Your system looks up to date.
>>54655659
Then you should have patience, they will release the shitty "founders" edition first. It will take at least 2 months until proper 1070s hit the market.
>>54662103
What is this? Looks dirty too.
>>54667780
If this is a 390X (Which I assume) you don't need to upgrade. At least 980Ti or 490(X), don't buy 1080s they're overpriced.

Should I go for i7-6700K or wait for 6800K? I currently have a 4+ years old i7-3930K.
>>
>>54678907
6700k would be a downgrade desu, you'd get a bit better single cor performance by around 20%, but you'd be losing 2 cores (4 threads).

If anything get the 6800k, but even that probably wouldnt be more than a 20-25% performance increase.
