In other words, you have no need for gentoo, unless you want epeen cred.
for all the pain of install and maintenance it puts you through you wont feel the performance difference 99% of the time

Easy to install if you have a few days. The problem starts when something gets fucked up in the source. You try to update, but of course the software you care about won't be able to compile. Your fucked unless you are familiar with all the intricacies of the largest software project that mankind has ever created.
