Google could sell 15 billion Chromebooks while Apple only sells 1. I don't fucking care and as long as a Chromebook is a Google Drive book, it's useless.

Besides, I like my macbook.

Chromebooks are wildly popular in K-12. So you might not see them as often in a university setting, but they're perfect for younger kids that aren't using special applications and have a curriculum designed around them.
>>
>>54639766
They're mostly being bought up en-masse by K-12 School Districts. My old district bought into the meme and it worked out really well.

>Like 30x cheaper
>Well optimized and fast
>Easy to service/replace
>Does everything a kid needs to do on a computer (Research, make rudimentary slide shows and write papers, stealthfaps)
>Insanely easy to manage for admins
>Easy deployment for IT
>Updates are handled by Google

I got one for my parents even. I switched them over to Google services too. It's so much better than having to fix their fucking Windows Laptop or work around all of their microsoft shit.

They've got like 12k photos sitting on Google servers now, all tagged up withe everyone identified, all places properly located too, and the device parity between their chromebook and my parents Moto /g/ is just beautiful.

Gonna see if I can meme them into Google Play Music family plan so I can get on that shit.

I went back to my HS to visit some teachers, and saw that all the language classes were switching over to Chromebooks with Duolingo

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/duolingo/ebnhfamfopiobpaehmebmfjcgkaogihe?hl=en-US

I've played around with this, and it works just flawlessly on my own chromebook.

Google is absolutely JUST'ing M$ and Apple when it comes to educational products and support. I have no clue how they're actually going to compete.

>>54639955
Everything. Docs, slides, sheets, music, any app you downloaded etc

I usually write up papers on the subway on my C720. Pretty much everything except the obvious web stuff works offline now.

>>
>>54639750
They're adding lenovo and hp to the list of sales, which means they're adding nice fat state contracts for schools. Apple has the same kind of contracts to so you really can't trust those numbers. If the numbers came from retailers, that would be a different story.
>>
Personally I'm glad, I hate how every stupid chucklefuck has an iPhone; it loses all exclusivity. Keep Apple for the elite, let the masses have Google.

did anyone read the IDC report??

> we head toward the end of 2016 things should start picking up in terms of Windows 10 pilots turning into actual PC purchases

wtf, they're expecting consumers to like windows 10 so much they'll go out and buy new computers.

> United States – Dell overtook HP Inc. for the first place ranking for the first time since the third quarter of 2009, ending a run of 25 consecutive quarters with HP Inc. at the top of the U.S. PC market. Dell's U.S. PC shipments rose 4.2% year over year to 3.48 million – good for a 25.6% share. HP Inc's PC shipments to the U.S. fell 14.1% to 3.44 million units (25.3% share). Lenovo continued its aggressive growth trajectory as its 1.9 million units shipped represented 21.1% year-over-year growth and accounted for 14.1% of total U.S. PC shipments. Apple's Mac shipments rose 5.6% year over year to nearly 1.8 million (13.0% market share). Acer's shipments fell 10.4% to 0.7 million, but the company overtook ASUS and Toshiba to regain a seat in the U.S. top five.
>>
Among computer makers, Apple sells more than most everyone else individually. Maybe Dell tops Apple, I'm not sure offhand.

This means Chromebooks also outsold pretty much every other individual computer maker.

>but but you're comparing the entire Chromebook market to single PC companies
yeah, but so are you when you compare market share of Windows to OSX, or Android to iOS.

Chromebooks are amazing for younger kids or even highschoolers because the teacher can manage an entire class from the master control panel. Pushing files, webpages and apps to each laptop is effortless and you can revoke rights with the flip of a switch. Google's Office suite is also a wonderful replacement for Microsoft office and it works just fine online and off.

They're ridiculously cheap to replace and have batteries that will last you for days. Content is usually synced at the end of the school day to a Google Drive for education which the teacher can access from home.

You don't need full processor speed when you're doing something as simple as writing shit on notepad or a document. There is value in throttling, the value is more battery time.

Can we get over this bullshit about calling Apple stuff "luxury".

I own a Macbook Pro and yeah it's well made and unlike most other laptops you can tell they actually put some thought into its design beyond just sorting through a random parts bin in Shenzhen but I would hardly call it luxury.

I like Apple hardware, and I certainly appreciate their overall design aesthetic and brand identity, but if you think they're a luxury good there's a good chance you're either retarded, poor, uncultured, or some combination thereof.

I'm not the guy with a MBA, I have a 15" rMBP (I'm also the one who made the comment about upgrading from an $800 Windows laptop). Poor people who come into money make stupid purchasing decisions and just get what costs the most, what's new? I'm not going to stop using my computer because black people sometimes also use the same model/brand. I'm pretty happy with my macbook, I'm not a fanboy. I have an Android phone and I also have a desktop I built myself for gaming. My macbook is approaching three years old now and it's held up way better than any windows laptop in my family. You probably can buy Windows laptops of equivalent or better specs and quality, I don't care. This computer was A) a gift to me and B) at the time I got it, I looked at comparable Windows laptops and everything with a high pixel density screen, was thin/not gaymur shit, and got decent battery life and had decent build quality cost about as much as a similarly configured macbook. Your shitposting is just extremely asinine "stop liking what I don't like".

chromebooks are cheap and can support linux therefore I support them, because when dan-the-dumbass breaks his porn machine he can buy a new one. Also browser based eliminates OS wars as it is fairly true that while c/c#/c++ have to bridge the gap between hardware/assembly, html goes above both of those and just writes at the very top level, it also makes jobs in server farms as more traffic heads back to datacenters and therego more jobs.

I run windows tpads for domains, iOS as mobile devices light devices, and hp/dell/lenovo for desktops because enterprise styled durability longevity. I'm cool chromebooks just from the sense they bridge gaps and its really fun to put in dev mode. Your problems then become arch. type (IE: arm vs standard linux amd64) which is fun to solve.

this also gives alphabet/google the ability to hire pooIntheLoo indians who wouldn't be that bad, but who do not argue for hire pay as they see their Visa as payment enough. This lowers the cost of webdevs and degenerates the industry for html/css writers, and by association PHP developers of the webdev paradigm. It actually becomes shameful as many harder projects that require real design will deteriorate as lowly paid devs in the next few years quickly chop together pastebin/stackoverflow code that they don't understand. Most learning resources are already published online therefore removing the education gap as well and pay tolerance.

Go college kids. Their high prices once implanted in the industry will hopefully even out the pooloos cheap going rates, or they will be planted above pooloo for project management.
>>
>>54641547

at least with so many webdevs hopefully open source projects become more popular as many html/css/php/webdev/django guys make 'firsts' learning projects. Creating branches to further development of long forgotten projects.

I wonder what the statistics would be if it was just Galaxy S/Note series vs iPhones. Cause those results probably include all the poo in the loos with 10$ smartphones. Additionally, it is known that the Western market (where the rich people live) is saturated by Apple.

10 - 20 years from now we might see Android eat up the western market share as the older generations die grasping on to their precious iphones. Android/Google is doing the smart thing by getting their ecosystem into the hands of the younger generation so thet they'll continue buying it when they get older. Apple's death is looming.

I definitely agree with this. It's not that I don't like Android, I do. I am using an Android device right now. The problem is that 1) the touch screen on pretty much any Android device feels clunky. 2) Android base install contains a bunch of crap modules that are useless because it doesn't install based on what your device supports. (IR blaster module on Nexus 6P? Really?) 3) Android memory management is a joke.

Rich people typically buy insurance for anything expensive they have because they have so much stuff that fixing everything they own themselves is just a waste of time. Apple's customer service is great if you can afford the repairs/applecare. My grandma has at least a million dollars. She does exactly this.
>>
>>54639750
My Dell chromebook actually looks really professional, and is sturdy compared to most chromebooks. That combined with an i3, 4GB of RAM and a real operating system installed on it like Linux? And for only $180 refurbished? I can see why chromebooks are outselling Macs.

That said, most chromebooks are either too shitty because they're so cheap, or too expensive for what they can do. Never buy one new.
>>
>>54642657
luxury items are often less durable and need a professional for assistance to work with. it's like comparing a Camry to a Ferrari. One you can probably work on, the other you're taking to the dealership and dropping it off when a problem comes along. apple forces this by doing things like soldered ram and making them hard open but who cares, it's their image and it works and it made them truckloads of dollars

Yeah the price helps, but also the fact that they actually let other manufacturers use their operating system, so any company can make an Android phone.

Apple always shoots themselves in the foot by locking everything down, trying to make it their exclusive super special Apple product that no one else can produce.

Then there's not enough diversity and competition, so the superior products from outsiders takes their market.

Apple opening up iOS to third party OEMs would ruin their business strategy. Their whole appeal to normies is that Apple controls everything about their ecosystem to maintain a minimum quality of experience. People genuinely do see Android as the choice for people who can't afford Apple products because there are so many people with cheap Android phones.
>>
>>54643780

Actually having android on shitphones deminishes the brand and the manufacturers mod the google botnet out, instead putting in their own botnet instead. So in the end google gets screwed over on the deal because ni adbucks and has to maintain an OS for chinks to rape and monitise on.

Apples approache makes sure you get quality every time.
