ITunes is a good enough music player: it's the best for organizing and tagging your library and its only shortcoming is the inability to play FLAC.
Also, Foobar is ricing-tier bullshit.
>>
its not unpopular if its true. :)

also, 1billion itunes users > 20,000 foobar/musicbee noobs.

I actually quite like iTunes. It manages my library quite nicely. I just wish it was faster. But then again, my library is 22.5k tracks strong.

speaking of foobar, I am in dire need of help in the themes department

disregarding both OP and my music library, does anyone have a nice foobar theme. mine is functional, it just doesn't...look nice

It's intuitive, allows for batch tagging, allows you to distinguish between artist and album artist, natively syncs to ipod...
Idk, maybe other MP do this too, but they always feel awkward to me

Can you explain how you find it more intuitive?

not even an issue. convert your flac files to lossless m4a (ALAC). you only have to do it once, then afterwards just setup a script to automatically convert any new FLAC files added to your music folder

For tagging and such it's pretty nice but I just happen to dislike having something that doesn't look too consistent with the rest of the applications on my system which is currently windows. If I used OSX I'd be using iTunes.

Also I have a handful of music that I cannot easily convert to a format readable by this player and if my player has a folder view "just in case" it's a plus. Which iTunes doesn't have either.

Ricing is nothing but castrating your UI to look pretty for a screenshot. Ultimately it's a time sink that will interfere with productivity. That's why the only people who do it are people who clearly never needed to work with their computers ever.

People whining about the lacking customizability of iOS are usually the people who need their smartphone the least. It's the people who only use their smartphones as toys who claim that iPhones are nothing but toys (ironically exactly because they can't be used as such).

There is no reason to upgrade your cpu/gpu these days.

So many kiddies with tiny music libraries. You can tell these little shits are all going to cloud music.

ITunes chokes hard when loading music, it also doesn't automatically scan the music folder for newly added music. When I mean chokes it takes me 3-5 minutes of scrolling down to render all the album art and album titles THEN when I scroll back it it sometime re-renders it. Wtf.

Tags works 75% of the time since for some God forsaken reason there will be mp3 files that iTunes can't add tags to but foobar can

To add the the steaming pile of shit that is ITunes it can't add covers from an image inside the folder named "cover".

Foobar loads all my music almost instantly when I open it, if I add music to my folder foobar updates without having to manually scan or close the application. And album covers are always there without fucking with the UI because I download one online and place it into the goddamn folder.
>>
>>54638397
Bullshit, I use foobar and I have literally changed nothing in its UI

Add your music library and it just werks, it's no harder to set up than iShit

How long will each streaming service keep their music?
How long until there are 3 or 4 streaming services with their own exclusive content?

Downloading music locally allows for a lot more flexibility and I know I'll always have access to it.
>>
>>54638906
Wow, had to scroll all the way down for someone sane. I tried to use Itunes but it's slow and doesn't allow customization. A good option is mediamonkey but I found foobar the best option, as it's fast, light, I can customize it to look exactly like I want, batch tagging, tons of plugins, etc. Maybe for other people other players can work well, but foobar is great when you have thousands of files. I also use Musicbrain picard for tagging, it's better than the nightmare some other players can be.
>>
>>54637550

I don't think it's lack of FLAC support is the major detractor, but the amount of memory and CPU it uses to do the simple tasks that other media players do at a fraction of the cost. Ultimately, I don't care what people use, just that they recognize why iTunes isn't the BEST. IF they still want to use it, that's fine, that's their own cognitive dissonance.

You can download as many songs, movies, games, etc as you want from the internet.

If piracy were theft, an ipod full of songs would be worth trillions.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZadCj8O1-0

What I'm saying is, it's a major ripoff to ask people to pay for songs like they used to in the past.

It makes more sense to have services that make you pay monthly fees to access copyrighted content than it is to pay for each individual download.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

It's fucking garbage. It's minimalist design is a fucking lie, nothing works the way you want it to. Syncing between two devices is an absolute fucking NIGHTMARE. You either have all the songs you want on both devices (which I can't have because 8GB phone < 20GB music), or have to manually select which songs you want or don't want on your device.

It's fucking garbage, and don't start with this piracy bullshit. Look at how much artists make, and tell me they need another dollar for a song that I can just find on YouTube and turn to an MP3.

>b-b-b-but you're not the only one who does that and they can lose money over that

They make millions and you're telling me a couple of poorfags are gonna bring them down because they see no reason to justify paying a dollar for 3-4 minutes of audio?

Give me a fucking break. Fuck iTunes, fuck entitled artists, FUCK. YOU.

>>
>>54640892
>smaller artists
>smaller amount of people who know them

>barely affected
>>
>>54640934
Doesn't matter if they still don't pay for it. Actually they'd be more affected because they don't make millions, but piracy still isn't theft. You should complain about majors who still think it's the 80's and that a business model where they could pick up 80-90% of the shekels safely because the artist still made enough dough with the rest isn't relevant anymore. That's still the wrong argument.

ITT why I dont use foobar nor anything else and why I probably never will be

Even if I am on PC windows 10 I am sticking to iTunes sadly

My midi controller can't be used without serato and serato without iTunes.

...I'm confused what you're arguing here.
>>
idk how to use foobar and rice that stuff. Itunes arranges my music so it's good enough for me i guess.
>>
Windows 10 is fine
Spotify and streaming music in general is a more convenient, better solution for listening to music than a dedicated music player and audio files

Paying for things with cash is what poor people do

Wait, these are popular opinions
>>
>>54640544
Apple literally had an ad on their site saying
>It costs $30000 to fill up an iPod
At first I was a bit confus as I thought that it would scare off pirates, but luckily my confusion went away and I became aware that that was literally their intention. Look where they are steering.

>lma0 no FBI xD
>>
>>54641130
I don't have an issue saying piracy isn't theft. It isn't because you can't prove that if there wasn't piracy the person DLing that shit would've bought it otherwise or even known about it (and I've discovered artists like that).

What I've an issue with is saying "it doesn't matter because artists make millions". It's not true except for a handful of them. And that's not the issue there. The thing is that majors still believe it's the 80's and try to protect their 80's or even 70's business model. Artists make more by touring actually than selling disks already partly due to that (even the big ones!). For example, I live in France and they waste money on Hadopi to reassure those labels. Still waiting for a letter considering what I've DLed since they've put it in place. The business model is shit and that's what needs to change. At this point, doing an album is just an excuse to go touring: you don't make money doing those albums, you just get material to go on tour to actually get money there.

On a personal level, I ironically still would have a hard copy of anything I listen to but I'm really an exception; when asked about it, some indie young artist about why they don't do physicals anymore said that not enough people buy it and they prefer either streaming or digital.

>ITunes is a good enough music player
I've been a long-term proponent of iTunes as good-enough, but fuck the latest update is making it hard. They broke so, so much shit; it's embarrassing.
>>
>>54643572
what exactly broke itunes in the last update? i use it casually as well but i dont see many issues other than the usual itunes bloat
>>
>>54644447
Well I guess the only thing that actually 'broke' was 'display as albums.' Basically, if you select to display a playlist or playlist folder in album view, albums by Various Artists don't show up — unless you sort by artist. Also, it hangs for ~20 seconds when you hit 'OK' to exit the multiple-selection edit/info window.
But in addition, the View Properties used to be a slick little dropdown. Now there's not button for it in the UI, just the menu item or control-J, and when it opens it's a minimum-effort window with checkboxes and stuff. The 'new playlist,' 'new playlist folder,' etc. buttons are also gone and only a menu item, but that I can deal with. Oh, and they still haven't fixed low-res album art being displayed in expanded album view.
