It's only relevant to applications which heavily rely on efficient processing of large very high-dimensional tensors, which is pretty much just machine learning. Simulations don't really get any benefits over using GPUs because they don't operate in the same regime at all (accuracy matters a lot and dimensionality is usually very small, and everything that's not machine learning but still do tensorops ends up being simulations).
