So what do the cool kids use these days for a server OS? How does this contrast with real world working environment OS system choice?
I've been out of tech for a few years, so basically I don't know what people use today?
Debian, it's stable and fairly light.

debian or centos
Debian, RHEL, CentOS, and Ubuntu are still top dogs.
>>54626347
Whatever you like. According to statistics RedHat/CentOS and Ubuntu are the most popular linux based server distros.Debian is very popular outside of corporate use.
The "cool" kids are actually running smartOS, OpenIndiana, nextenta or omnios
>>54626347
Debian is gud.
>>54626347
Was on CentOS but got fed up of how stable it is and how it can take a while for packages to be updated in the repos.
So moved to fedora just because I didn't have to think much whilst setting up as Fedora is effectively CentOS but with less stability

But if I have anything that I would need to run for a while without maintenance it would be Centos
Ubuntu Desktop Edition. Our sysadmin doesn't know how to manage it without the GUI so we need a full DE in every VM.

tell him he's a fucking retard and needs to read a book. I recommend pic related, on the assumption that he can read.

can't upload image my ass
>>54626347
Ubuntu Server, it works okay, not the most reliable thing in the world but its easy to maintain.
But honestly the cool kids these days don't care about the OS, they just use Docker for everything.

Wouldn't accomplish anything. Nobody is ever fired here unless they do something blatantly illegal. He's just coasting to retirement.
Did I mention we don't have SSH set up on any of them? He operates entirely out of VMware's console.
>>54628616
Well technically that is more secure.. But then you have ubuntu.gui security flaws so
>>54628616
Holy ass of a fine Irish lass. That's some bullshit right there.
>>54626502
the illumos shill is real but at least he's getting something important out in the open
>>54626347
Debian.
