While it is old by now, I see no problem with having it on a laptop because a lot of places (the sane places) don't throw away hardware that works.
That means the majority of projectors still use vga, and the main reason I use it is so I can plugin a projector.
The projectors are getting replaced, but things like that take time.
Having stability in these things is important.
If we were to remove USB, there should A, be a damn good reason, B, take a damn long time, so people can phase out existing devices.
Using an adapter on a laptop is embarrassing.

I just hooked up a 1440p monitor to my moms desktop computer and the only cable solution that output 1440p was the lowly vga connection. hdmi and displayport failed me for some reason, but vga seems to be handling 60hz 1440p just fine
