What's /g/ opinion about bittorrent sync?
Is it secure enough to use it to share stuff that may or may not be illegal?
>>54615119
Syncthing
>>54615344
Any more than just the name?
OK, its FOSS, but else?
Seems like the "discovery" part needs an external server, not sure what to think about that. But then on the other hand, without one, you'd need a second channel, to inform your machines about their respective IPs, so its kinda necessary.

Proprietary software that takes a super useful idea and wraps it behind encryption and networking that I have no reason to trust.
Just use syncthing.
>>54615344
This. I use Syncthing and it works great.
>>54615119
>not libre
it can sync itself on its way into the trash
>>54616704
So how does it differs from sync?
>>54616704
the discovery servers are optional, and you can run one yourself instead, as it's also foss
>>54617146
it's free, it works in much the same way otherwise
>>54617297
Then why sync is bad while syncthing is good?
>>54617328
btsync is non-free software
why use a proprietary program when there's a foss one that does the same thing? especially where personal data and networks are concerned
>>54617328
Because syncthing is free, whereas BTsync is not.
>>54617328
Because if /g/ can't have source code it will declared evil, even none have read a source code in their life.

It's basically torrent with public IP. that you can use with access key.
So No, no cheese pizza for you.
