Much like the DJ/Producer of yesteryear, programming, aka "making apps" has become the latest must-have personality accessory.
>>
a verb can't be an accessory, OP. nouns can be an accessory.
>>
It seems to be so
>>
>>54612400
OP is still a faggot.

You mean like code?
>>
>>54612600
"code" has multiple definitions, some of which render it a verb and some rendering it a noun.

you should take english classes next semester, ramesh.

>apples are sometimes green and sometimes red
>you claim that apples are green so you should take english classes

honestly dude, you need to take english classes. get off 4chan and register at a community college or something. i can't be your correspondence course.

why does it bother some people that coding and making apps have a broader reach in the public

>>
>>54613021
>>54613065
It does though, if you have a basic understanding of economics. Even if you consider yourself far superior to shitty devs, the ones displaced at the bottom will compete for the almost bottom dev market with lower salaries, and those displaced there will reach for a higher market and so on, until finally some guy who is slightly shittier than you are does your job for a lot less. There's nothing inherently wrong with this though, we've seen it coming the last 30 years or so.
>>
>>54612778
Nobody worth a damn should worry though. Most people that have this "I can code apps!!! :)))" mentality are shit tier worse than poo in loo developers. If you're any good, this will just create a bigger disparity between discount devs and the professionals. You'll probably get paid more.

it's like that, except now they're all coding apps using Visual Code

This is true, in already experiencing this on the IT side of things. I'm a systems engineer with a CS background and basically I'm a devops meme. People in this line of work that can actually write code are really rare, and as such I was hired by one of the big software companies that only hires top talent and even within here I'm seen as some sort of God. I don't even do anything all that impressive, but within my department and org I'm a wizard.

The 'making' is not a verb, it's a gerund formed from the verb 'make'.

Learn some English.

it's Atom in the OP.

>>54613775
yeah i know what you mean because i experienced that too.

i didn't take it too seriously though, because A) in my line of work, most peolpe were non-technical, and B: most people were probably just being slightly autistic, trying to be over-nice and overcome their prejudice and stereotypes of "tech people" or something stupid

I'm kinda glad the whole 12 year old music producer fad is on its last legs. Soundcloud and EDM in general suffered immensely.

Why eveyone is rushing into the whole code artisan business is beyond me though. The hype for apps has gone down immensely, even google is retreating back into web apps.

first, don't give a shit what constitutes an "actual programmer." what are your interests? knowledge of the domain you're interested in is probably more important than programming itself, use programming as abstract tooling to "do shit" or "solve problems" you're interested in
>>
>>54622290

also don't take advice from 4chan. explore your options. if you learn some stupid shit like javascript you'll prolly be better paid than the detractors here
>>
>>54622290
>booklearnin is fer neerds!
>>
>>54621993
learn a high level language (like python) and learn a low level language (like C). From there, just expand your knowledge base as much as possible. And if for some reason you do start making websites or web applications, don't dye your hair pink or something fucking stupid.

Basically what separates "actual programmers" from meme programmers are the fact that actual programmers spend their days writing stuff whereas the meme programmers post pics of their IDE on snapchat, twitter, and instagram while writing the most basic shit.

It is descriptive speech, not literal. You need to read more literature. I dunno, something with spark and imagery and allegory. Perhaps "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" by Wolfe, or "Naked Lunch" by Burroughs.
>>
>>54612400
about to finish my first semester of a CS course,

basically you get a 4/4 if you spaghetti code, which is to be expected i guess, but you don't get any extra marks for putting extra thought and care into writing modular code, which, albeit expected, is kind of unfair

Because trendy chucklefucks who are only in it for the money, attention or some romanticized narrative an HR recruiter threw at them at a job fair are annoying as fuck and produce shit quality products.

They produce nothing of real value but blog about it like they do.

What little they do make is inefficient garbage written in even more inefficient interpreted language.

They push "progress" for the sake of progress, shit like JS-bloated websites full of tacky animations, shitty "minimal" design with laughably low information density, obnoxious acronyms and buzzword terminology, and constant wasteful consumption of technology for fear of not looking hip enough to their other hipster friends.

Most importantly, they have no passion for what they do, they're disgusted by the idea of exploring technology if they can't blog about it to look cool, and yet they have the audacity to think they're hot shit at anything but being a tool.
>>
>>54625683
you bought the blocking javascript is cucking my life meme?
>>
>>54624472
can you point to an example of using a gerund to describe a tangible noun the way "accessory" uses it in the OP post?

i'm not trying to be combative; it's just that when someone uses rhetorical devices in a *new* way, the options are generally
>broke the rules because they didn't understand them (pajeet or child)
or
>broke the rules fully knowing what they were doing (shakespeare or steinbeck status)
and we're all apparently assuming that the OP is the latter by default. which is crazy. we all know /g/ and 4chan too well to consider the pajeet option a foregone conclusion, don't we?

Question for you 'real' programmers -

You internet badasses who learned C from a 50 year old book, who never touch pleb languages like js or ruby.

What have you ever created that others actually use?
>>
>>54626037

tables are not so bad, i agree. people have gone through a lot of effort to recreate such a thing with garbage tools. i don't think they deserve the "laughing stock" perception they have at present

anyways. javascript is good to know even if the language itself is shit that was cobbled together in a week. there is loads and loads of stupid and indefensible decisions and it is largely a dumpster fire, sure, but most of technology is terrible. technological adoption is a social issue primarily, and for whatever reason history has decided it be popular despite it's numerous shortcomings. so knowing a little bit of it, even if it's bad, is probably in your best interest. at the very least things like React are actually good.
