NT4 had 6 service packs and a rollup pack.
2000 had 4 and a rollup pack
XP had 3 service packs
Vista had 2 service packs
7 had 1 service pack and a rollup pack
8 had an "upgrade" but Microsoft deliberately avoided calling it a service pack or a rollup pack.

The way Windows 10 does it (without service packs at all, just rolling updates) is preferred, honestly. In an ideal scenario it would be perfect, but since Windows has turned into a giant clusterfuck of compatibility layers the implementation of rolling releases is fucked and takes too long. Windows wasn't really designed to be modular.
And all they are doing to fix it is adding even more shit to the heap. It's not going to end well.
