How does /g/ feel about the rampant generals?
Will this force jap moot to make /gg/ (technology general) or will we live with this cancer forever?
>>
I hide them

Cancer forever
>>
>>54603730
This board needs to be split into Linux/programming and consumer/other
>>
>>54603758
Fucking absolutely this
Get on it, Hiroshima
>>
honestly stallman is the original cancer of /g/
should ban his fat face from this board
>>
Indifferent.
>>
>>54603758
What's so special about Linux?

Fuck off. If that were a thing then it would be /diy/
>>
>>54603730
Easy
sticky a consumer advice general as well as a stupid questions general so that faggots who keep making random threads get their shit deleted

oh wait there's another board that already does that
>>
You ain't getting a /gg/ before co gets a /cog/. The cancer there is several times stronger.
>>
>>54605774
>get their shit deleted
/g/ doesn't have a janitor
>>
>>54603730
they're better than most of the other threads actually. keeps people who actually want to discuss something together. Half of the non-general threads are Pajeets shilling or just bait.
>>
>>54603730
They actually work. You just hide generals that you don't like and post in ones that you do like.
As for regular threads, you check it out and if it's a shill thread, you ignore it, and if it's interesting, you read it.

If there were no generals, everyone would shitpost everywhere, I guess. >>54603758 might be a good idea instead of generals, though.
>>
>>54605880
>They actually work. You just hide generals that you don't like and post in ones that you do like.
Why not just merge /g/ and /v/ and have people who don't like gaming hide the gaming threads?
>>
>>54605788
Let's test it. Just reported
>>54601386
>>54605733
>>54605879
which violate /g/ rule 2.
>Tech support threads should be posted on /wsr/.
Surely the janitor will take care of them any second now.
>>
>>54606103
those are actually disguised shill threads
>>
>>54603758
Is there some way it can be split into Linux/programming/technology news/developments and consumer/tech support/gadgets/other instead?
>>
>>54606145
I don't care what they are called. Request/recommendation/leech threads are a cancer on all boards (except /wsr/) because they only take away from other users but don't give back any interesting content. But somehow /a/ is the only board that deletes them on sight.
>>
>>54606174
yeah yeah i agree with you, i'm just saying that those are actually shill threads which is even worse
but yeah stay seated waiting for the jani to come any moment now....
>>
Should have a separate board for Operating Systems. Let the faggots whip their dicks out there and fight over which OS is superior
>>
Generals are a site-wide problem. I don't really see a way of fixing it without doing something absolutely radical and stupid like creating a site-wide "generals" board(s).

>>54603758
>>54605709
You newfag /qa/ncers sure do love whining about splitting boards and creating new ones.
>>
>>54606232
In a board based on programming or hacking, this thing could maybe even regulate itself. Then flame wars could exist mainly in hypothetical cancerous threads such as "/ide/ - IDE general" or "Justify you usage of X text editor" or ">mfw he doesn't use visual basic."

OS flame wars are started by shills baiting regular users. Where there's nothing to buy, you don't have shills to push their shit and nobody is provoked into acting hostile. All this consumerist garbage and therefore normie presence is where the problem lies.
>>
>>54606419
Maybe we should just bring back /prog/ as an image board.
>>
>>54606448
We had one? What happened?
>>
>>54606455
It was a text board and since the text boards were all practically dead moot decided to delete them.
>>
>>54606466
A /prog/ image-board would be great. Might fix the faggotry-filled cancer that is /dpt and /wdg
>>
>>54606448
>>54606501
>you mena haskell
>enterprise quality
>vipper

Yeah, quality stuff.
>>
>>54603730
Generals are a natural evolution of image boards. When /trash/ was created, I observed its evolution. Initially there were a wanton explosion of random threads but eventually through natural selection, mainly pony porn threads remain. Same with /qst/ where lol randumb one off quests are now being supplanted by episodic long running quests. People like to talk about things that interest them. The natural result is a general.
>>
>>54606534
Sure, you'd get retarded shit like that. But i think you'd also filter out the shills & incompetent retards of /g/ who know nothing about code
>>
>>54606103
lo and behold, we actually have a janitor
