GearVR has Rift sensors and a centralized VR Store known as the Oculus app where it is absolutely mandatory that apps published on the store must run at 60fps stable, which some cardboard apps are shit at doing, alongside recording the last five or so minutes of your gameplay for "shadow play" which I have no idea how to turn off
This unfortunately leads to overheating issues after 10 minutes of play if you don't turn the brightness down to 75% and turn off all radios but Wi-Fi, at least on anything but the S7 since that's at least liquid cooled.
The bad part also is the limited amount of applications available, and some have to get approved in the store in order to get in. There is a third party application and 90% of the garbage there is Unity based trash, there's no YouTube application because Oculus wants you to use Facebook Video or your own shit.
If you already own a Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, S7, S7 Edge, and want to get into VR, yes buy it. But don't expect to do much outside of watching videos.

You can "see" the pixels inside all of the headsets being offered; that will continue to be the case until we're able to drive two 4k displays at >90fps through a single graphics card.
