Is this generation going to be another Athlon vs Pentium, but this time for gpus?
AMD going for efficiency/performance while Nvidia goes for high clocks like netburst back then.

Will gtx 1080s be sold in bundles with fire extinguishers?

I plan on upgrading from my 4th gen i5 and GTX970 to all AMD (Zen CPU and Polaris 11 GPU)

Only thing is I won't get it unless they can put the highest end Zen next to the 6th gen i7 and it has better single and multicore performance. As well as if the Polaris 11 GPU that costs about $400-$500 is better then the 980 (non ti).

It's barely 20% faster than a 980TI. And Nvidia's TDP is never correct either.

A heavily overclocked 1080 will probably draw 250W or so.

Why do people like to pretend Nvidia has a bad high end? I really like AMD and prefer to get all my cards from them when I can but holy shit Nvidia has destroyed them for a while now when it comes to top tier cards. I'm just hoping Vega is at least a competitive alternative to the 1080Ti, because Fury was a mistake and stood no chance at all against the 980Ti.

Nobody's doing that though. If you looked at GPU threads in the last six months or so, people always recommended to go with the 980TI. At every other price point AMD cards at least competitive, if not superior. The high end is the only segment where Nvidia have a clear lead.

>>
puhlease.

nvidia has never had any verified issues with cooling or thermal efficiency, just stupid internet memes. On the other hand AMD has had numerous documented instances where AMD cards have caused fires, hell i know from experience my brother had a HD4870 and that thing burst into flames one day.

So, no, fuck you, if anything poolaris should have fire extinguishers bundled.
>>

>>
>>54593532
Asynchronous compute only offers a considerable boost if the shaders of a card aren't already being utilised.

The only reason it offers such performance increases for AMD is because their drivers are so shit that 20% of their gazillion shaders end up spinning idle.

Nvidia have the best drivers in the world. Their shaders are always at least 99% utilised.

Mantle, Vulkan and all those other low level APIs are just AMD's desperate attempt to get out of having to write working drivers and pass on their responsibility.

The gpu business would be too profitable to just ditch like that. I'd trust samsung to do the right thing anyway. If there's one company that I fully trust it'd be samsung. I was gifted a samsung galaxy s4 a few years back and it's still going strong today, I'm writing this post on it. I've also bought a cheap samsung tv and monitor and they've been my 2 best tv/monitor purchases I've made. Samsung make some top top quality products at very competitive pricing so I honestly believe they'd be able to topple nvidia off the top of the market and I'm an nvidia fan as well. Currently rocking a 980.

I don't mind having 5fps less thatn the direct competitor of the GPU I'm going to buy from AMD if it means not supporting nvidias shady business model.

I'm not autistic enough to care about 5fps, but I have too big of a conscience to give my money to companies that behave like dicks.

If nvidia makes the better GPU, good for them, just means that it strives the GPU market since AMD will try to catch up or even make better.
But where my money is going is very set.

83 under load is perfectly acceptable, if you have problems with it perhaps it's more the chassis airflow or lack of water cooling thats the issue. A typical AMD card regularly hits 90 degrees with water cooling. Now that is unacceptable.
