In late 2013 I future proofed my MacBook Pro by getting the 1TB flash Storage. 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L. 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache. Spent ~$3,000 on it including the price reduction for a student discount
I know I don't need to buy another laptop but I really like the MacBook design assuming this is what they stick with.

Normally I get used laptops but I need that battery life for work these days. Might buy a separate battery after I see what its like. I really would be happy with a laptop I dont have to plug in for 12 hours in a pinch.
Thinkpad still has that quality also, even if the keyboards are a bit less then they were.

For what it's worth, I am a developer and the laptop is almost-exclusively for development (the keyboard is god-tier), and I use the keyboard almost exclusively, so it isn't a big deal at all.
But, I still wonder if I'm missing out on anything.

It's better because it's no longer hinged so you can tap anywhere and it will click, and you get the nifty multi-level click when you press harder.

It could be better obviously and it'd be cool if they made a more powerful version as direct competitor to Surfacebook but given the screen, it's one of the few Windows devices actually made for productivity.

Yeah, same reason I never considered any Surface but reading all the praise about the kickstand from the X1, it seems they figured a way to make it actually lap-able. With that flaw gone, it's pretty interesting option and indeed replaces a laptop while giving you the pros of a tablet.
