How's this for a first build? My budget is $800 - 900 not including OS, Monitor, mouse, and keyboard.

Not bad except for the 3.5

Any suggestions?

Scratch that. 5400 rpm HDD is shit, bro.
>>54584528
Is 7200RPM better?
>>54584382
meme cooler
get dual channel ram
bad hdd, get a good hdd, or add an ssd in there
other than that seems good

Yell dah and best of all is SSDs plus also make sure your CPU cooler can fit in your Mid Tower , i remeber for some odd reason it was to big for my mid-tower.

Yes.

Wait for 1070 ? Get 970 at discount after 1070 drops? 500 watt PSU is close, but adequate for a 970. 390 would be a good choice also, but needs 750.
7200 is better, yes. 5400 would be painfully slow. Better for archival and storage.

I'm planning on adding an SSD pretty soon after the initial build. And I'll be sure do go with dual channel ram.

Would 1070 be much more expensive. I won't be buying all the components until next month. I was banking on the 970 falling in price.

I expect it would be. How much? 10-15%? No one really knows. It might really be worth the difference. 5400 HDD is fine if u get an ssd.
