I'm going to guess the "2 times as much performance in games" is only in VR because of new rendering techniques and memory compression built into Pascal. Odds are at stock it's not too much faster than 980Ti, although overclocking could make a difference.
Don't preorder one, you stupid shit. Unless you're gaming at 4k or using VR, wait for the 10xx series to come out and buy used or discounted Maxwell cards. Also, Polaris is coming out soon and could offer similar (non-VR) performance, so just be patient.
