Why is there a lack of programmers' unions? Should programmers unionize?
Unions are for retards.

Programmers are too anti-bullshit to put up with the bullshit of unions.
Most programmers are libertarian by nature and thus very individualistic. This would preclude them from entering into any collectivist movement.
Yes,
The larger companies have been exploiting programmers. Apart we are weak together we are strong
Too much autism condensed in a single place, nothing good would come out of that
I actually study digitally mediated work (so things like programming, but also turking, gig work, etc...) and basically the answer seems to be >>54571289. a lot of workers don't want to be affiliated with something onerous and overbearing, and they perceive unions to be that.
i'm working on a project that would bake worker advocacy stuff into the marketplace, but it's pretty nascent
Unions are a cancer of a different sort. They work pretty well for the beginning, then start to lose their purpose and become another unnecessary bureaucratic barrier to doing actual work. Most software developer positions are already inundated with lots of meaningless red tape. Why add another layer to a relatively well-paid position that doesn't need help getting benefits? All it does is kill productivity.
