They clearly need better marketing. Just look at all the partnering this "worse" company gets and the difference in the size of their consumerbase. Raw, on paper statistics mean nothing if you can't actually use all that "potential" to get a good experience.
Even though AMD consistently had better hardware that should outperform nVidia, there have always been roadblocks like devs using proprietary calls and not worrying about AMD, which means a driver fix to address the issue in the particular game and infinite waiting on AMD to release their drivers, which means dissatisfied consumers moving to nVidia. I remember shadows and trees in skyrim were fucked on my ATI card (among other issues in lots of other games) that didn't get addressed in am update until a month after I had tracked down bullshit workarounds. All the issues I had were nonexistent on nVidia cards. By all rights the AMD/ATI card should have been outperforming the same-tier nVidia cards, but shit like that happening to consumers over and over drives away customers. Even when nVidia fucks up .5 GB of vram, the games are still playable at a high level of detail and decent framerates.
