Don't do it man. Get a pump, a radiator, and a real block instead. And while you're at it, you may as well get a CPU block as well. A CPU block on it's own only costs about as much as a mid-high end air cooler, and if you already have the rest of the parts to cool your GPU, you may as well throw it in.
>>
>>54567037
I'm getting a 1070 with CLC as well. I'm not dropping $500+ on a custom loop for no reason. A CLC is a $50 premium over an air cooler. (For both GPU or CPU).

pretty accurate. The ambient temp at the time was like 5c, I opened the doors in my house during winter for some reaosn, i can't remember why and basically the temp in my house dropped like a rock.

The socket temp in that pic, i am 99% sure is bugged. It hasn't done it since, and at the time I freaked out, shut my PC down and physically inspected the socket to see if it was actually dead, and it was cold to the touch seconds after shutting down, so I'm pretty sure it was inaccurate. Just bugged out cuz the temp got so low.

Excited about Polaris and Pascal. I definitely want to chuck these two cards for the next flagship after benchmarks. SLI was a bad idea, though for the games that properly support it, it's pretty great.

Next "upgrade" I'm definitely going custom loop. I'll put a EK-XLC Predator 240 on the front, a horizontal reservoir across the bottom, and a 120mm rad on the back. I think that would be adequate for only a GPU and CPU. I am concerned though that the integrated pump in the Predator won't be strong enough, but I guess I'll research it when I'm closer to crossing that bridge.

Cablemod sells sleeved SATA cables, I believe they have them in white. No heatshrink either, the cable end is molded around the sleeving. I believe Bitfenix had something like that too.

I have my reasons. Like plans for a 360mm radiator in the top, more HDDs in the future, etc. etc.. I don't particularly NEED a full tower RIGHT NOW, but I won't have to buy a new case for any reason for a long, long time. Then when I one day retire my 750D, I can build a badass server in it instead !

Also thanks for info, gonna look into Cablemod. Do you know if they ship to Europe ?

I did that with my retired Lian Li

Moved all my networking guts into a cheap ikea cabinet, and cut a hole for power at the bottom, a hole in the back of the shelf to route cables, and a hole near the top for my server cat6. Planning on cutting two 2.5" holes in the back and mounting intake/exhaust 60mm fans, powered by 5v USB, and because fans are 12v, it should have the effect of having them move at half speed... or stall. Worst case scenario, I'll need to get a boost converter.

Probably going to eventually make a platform of some sort to lift the computer to match the cabinet height as well.

Upgrades needed:

New GPU (leaning 1070 or 980Ti, though may hold out for a 1080Ti)
White cold cathode kit (so I can take out the LED fans that barely light the case)
Possibly a 3TB HDD for grins
Corsair HX750i (color scheme)
Sleeved cables in blue

>inb4 hur durr full tower
It will eventually be a server when I decide to build another in 5-6 years so having the ability to rack 12-15 HDDs and 4 SSDs is well worthwhile.

Use a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol. Any residue left from the cotton swab you can get right off with a decent air compressor.

Also having a backplate makes your live easier. But your GPU is probably too old to get a backplate now.

let me give you some advice. if you don't mind a dusty shirt, pat the back of your graphics card against your shirt a few times. it usually removes dust just fine. just make sure you're touching something metal and grounded while you do this to prevent ESD damage.

I do this all the time on graphics cards pulled out of shit cases at my buddy's when he scraps a big haul of them. works every time, then pat shirt down to remove dust. simple.

Reposting from /sqt/:

This is my current case fan setup, with intake in blue, and exhaust in red (not counting GPU and PSU fans). I have one additional case fan, and the only place I can mount it is in the area circled yellow. Would it be better off as an exhaust, or an intake? In either instance, would it interfere with the intake of the CPU? My instinct is to mount it as a traditional exhaust, but I've had someone suggest it as an intake to help with the CPU HSF, which I think makes some sense given that my case lacks a top-front intake fan.

My first build after years of owning laptops. It's not even finished yet, the desk and monitor are on the way, so I just have it hooked up to my TV for now. I'm also waiting for Polaris to get a GPU.

I'm probably going to move the fans with LEDs to the front of the case and get the SP120s for the top of the case. I like the blue ambient glow inside the case, but it's a bit too much how it is now. Maybe I could put like some reflective tape on the inside of the front panel so that it reflects the blue light back into the case? I probably won't do that though.

Also why do motherboards still come with PS/2 ports? It would be way more convenient if they used that space for an SD card reader or more USB ports or something.

It's hideous, it's dusty, and it's a fucking cable nightmare but I don't exactly swim in money. It's a full tower and with a 750watt PSU because I was planning to SLI/Crossfire but that does not seem worth the price compared to the lack of support for it.

Upcoming changes:

-Getting rid of that PSU. I want a smaller one that's modular and doesn't have coil whine out of the box.

-New monitor (Thinking of going 2K. Not sure yet. I want a freesync monitor (especially after NVIDIA fucked up big time with pascal performance) and my current one is starting to flicker with white, green, and purple lines

-Replace my last HDD with a 1tb ssd as soon as it goes sub 200. Sadly the optical disk drive bay and the hard drive bay appear to be soldered into the case so I'm SOL on that front

-Any other recommendations?

Yeah not really. They order them in bulk and actually look at the cost vs reliability of keyboards (and everything else) before buying them. Business grade anything is usually better than consumer grade stuff for a reason.

The radiator keeps itself cool enough. It's definitely the coolest running part of the case. The processor does not break 60c and the liquid temperature does not break 40c. I keep it on a silent profile with ~30% fan speed. That's with an ambient room temp of about 68F-72F.

The cards are another story. I'm currently using the default fan curve, so the top card will top off at 80c and the bottom card at 74c when they're both fully utilized. Though those temps are just because of the reference cooler and NVIDIA's fan curve.

I use HWiNFO and from first starting the system to 4 hours in, I can say the radiator doesn't raise the system component temperature more than a few Celsius. All board hardware aside from the audio chip stay below 50c.

I asked this in the stupid question thread but I'm still not 100% clear about it. why do I want possitive pressure > negative pressure?

I read the exact opposite on an airflow guide and now I'm just confused.
>>
>>54610949
Positive pressure is only useful if you have filtered intakes, since it helps to keep dust out of the case. With negative pressure, dust will get sucked in every crack and hole in the case.
>>
>>54610949
Negative pressure has a minor advantage to cooling efficiency, since you're removing more of the warm air. The downside is that it will cause air to make it's way in wherever it can, through vents and panel gaps and whatnot, bringing dust in with it. Positive pressure, so long as all intakes are filtered properly, will cause air to seep out of all of the little cracks and crevices in the case and help prevent dust buildup. Far more useful than a ~2 degree difference that gets negated as soon as your heatsinks get caked in dust. Without the filters, you don't get the efficiency of negative pressure, and you're just packing your case with dust anyways. Basically:
filtered positive pressure > negative pressure > unfiltered positive pressure
